Male BC pill one step closer to realityFollow

#1 Jun 29 2010 at 5:33 PM Rating: Good
Researchers in Israel have developed a male birth control pill that causes 100% temporary infertility without affecting performance or hormone levels.

Quote:
Researchers plan to start human trials with the pill next year, and estimate that it could be available to the public in as little as three years. One of the major concerns about developing an effective pill-based form of male contraception is that men might be less likely to remember to take it every day. Yet, should it prove effective in humans, men would only need to take this tablet once a month or once every three months.

Considering my husband forgets to take his cholesterol pill almost every other day, they may have a point.

I firmly believe that reproduction decisions should involve both partners, but giving men control over reproduction in a way that is reversible and doesn't involve condoms will be a huge help. Since it's non-hormonal (it works by blocking the production of a key protein for sperm production, rendering every single lil' swimmer into a sitting duck), the concerns about gynomastica and androgens should be a moot point.

I've never been able to do pills; maybe they'll come up with a raspberry chewable tablet?

This is item #3 on the gay agenda.

I think you need to worry about doing sex first.

What's the over/under on some guys taking 3 pills on a Friday to cover them for the weekend?

Considering it only has to be taken once a month at most, it's not even really an issue.

Yeah, I didn't read the article. I was just trying to draw parallels between this and what some girls do with their BC pills.

Right, and someone else got there first.

That's cute, you assume the scientists were straight

Truth is, they were gay scientists tasked with this very endeavor so that we could ruin marriage, or something.

For a moment I thought you typed "100% temporary infidelity" and I wondered why it would only be temporary.

Well, I guess you could say you're only actually committing infidelity in the moments you're, y'know, actually fucking.

I think it’s a fantastic idea, only I think it should affect their hormones, make them break out, boobs hurt, leg cramps, and they should have to bleed out their ***** for a week out of every month. It’s only fair.

On a serious note, I think it’s a great idea if it doesn't have major side effects. Although I would be interested in know if the incident of STD's increases with this. Condom's don't only prevent pregnancy, as I'm sure you all know.

I think any suggestion that STD incidence would remain stagnant or even suffer only a moderate rise would be ridiculous. Most men look for any excuse possible to refrain from condom use. I assume it to be true because I've met men before and I would be shocked to learn that it isn't true. Giving them a decent excuse would be inviting trouble.

Was this actually proven?

I can't remember to take a daily pill for the life of me, but my husband has no problem.

Yeah, latex doesn't feel so nice. I think condoms also have a dampening effect.

Smiley: nod

I also think this is a good idea, because I have known women who have gotten pregnant when their significant other's didn't want to have a kid and pretended it was an accident. It would be nice if a guy could take a pill so they don't just have to depend on their wife.

It seems kind of ******, but there it is. It happens, unfortunately.

This. And not just wives, but girlfriends, one night stands, prostitutes, etc. No more "but she said she was on the pill!" whining at child support payment hearings.

That said, I'll be on BC pills for the rest of my life even if my husband opts to take a male version, because of painful cramp syndrome.
