In order to become a citizen, you have to serve!

(Don't worry, they can rebuild you in vats with laser etchy thingys. So if you get stabbed by a giant bug thing, you'll be OK.)

Actually, I'd be all in favor of mandatory service, like some other nations have.

Hitler was of much the same opinion.

I find it very amusing this morning to think that Varus is trying to convince us all that the Red states really could take the Blue states in a war if the Blue states didn't have any guns.

Jophed,

Considering most of the military despises liberal democrats I'd say we'd be in a pretty good position to wipe out the bastions of liberalism that have f*cked this country up.

I keep hearing (mostly from you) that most of the military are republicans and they hate liberals and on and on, but I can't find anything that shows statistics of what political party is in the majority in the military. Got anything to back up these big bad words?

Wait... you played ball on the base for that long... and didn't join?

I'm sure they appreciate that, with all your posturing.

Funny enough, whenever we see photos of the troops and Obama, for example, the troops look like they just found out Santa Claus is real.

I can believe that a significant percentage of, say, officers in the military are annoyed with liberals in Congress. But the rank and file percentage of troops (of which a not-insignificant portion are African-American) don't seem that way at all.

From personal experiences, most military personnel I've met have been moderate/centre-right. Overall, not big on politicians in general getting involved with military matters, regardless of the leaning of the politician in question.

In recent polls, It's significantly more split now.

With 41% identifying republican, 32% identifying independent.

Which still, technically, makes them more Republican than Democrat. Interesting. Thanks for the link.

You don't get it do you Belkira?
You should know by now that you should be the one bringing evidence to disprove Varus' claims and that it should be evidence that is exactly as he describes it because else it's obviously worthless evidence.

Tulip,

So if we have close to 80% of the military who do not identify themselves as democrats.

And close to 60% who do not identify as Republicans.

Either way, that does not mean that they hate Democrats or Liberals.

A lot of the Republicans in the military were like my dad - came from conservative families, very strict and disciplined, and extraordinarily fiscally conservative (my father had a libertarian streak in that respect.)

On the other hand, ask a military person whether the government is good, and the answer is probably a positive one. While there are no doubt many Republicans in the military (after all, nothing makes a redneck family proud like a son in uniform), not all of them are of the ignorant, Tea-bagging variety.

No, I've found it to be a blend of moderate liberals, and moderate conservatives. A few are to the far right, which is OK, since they pick up their dog ****.
