She should have kept her mouth shutFollow

#1 Jun 18 2010 at 11:09 AM Rating: Good
Sharon Angle, the Scientologist tea bagger that is the GOP candidate running against Harry Reid this fall, has avoided the media for the last few weeks since she was elected. Her first interview with a local reporter was . . . well, you can watch it for yourself.

Reporter: Is it true that you want to "transition out of Social Security"
Angle: Where are you getting this from? You're buying into Harry Reid's lies.
Reporter: But your own campaign website says-
Angle: Stop putting words into my mouth!

Angle really, really really wants to make this race a referendum on Harry Reid. That's all good and well, but you still have to offer up your own ideas in order to get taken seriously.

Harry Reid was going to be facing a really tough re-election. If the goopers don't get a muzzle and leash on Angle, then he might just cruise onto re-election after all. Democrats aren't too pleased with him, and independents are tired of him, and of course the GOP can't stand him - but at least he's not batsh*t insane.

Angle is, at least, completely honest. She says what a lot of GOPers really think and believe deep down inside, without the censorship and smokescreens that the Republicans have been relying on to get elected over the last fifty years.

(I know the Dems have our own WTF in Alvin Greene, but at least his particular brand of crazy is a quiet, under the radar one.)

More to the point, the S. Carolina race was never competitive anyway. Angle is taking one of the formerly assumed number one flips and making it a toss-up at best.

Jophed,

Smiley: laugh You realize Reid is the incumbent don't you?

All Angle has to do is point to their rising unemployment numbers and connect Reid with Obama and it's a done deal.

Not to mention all the shots Obama has taken at NV. If the administration, and Dems in general, were so popular and doing such a good job Reid wouldn't be in the trouble he's in.

Oh and the "reporter" asked a loaded question. If she says she wants to move away from social security that just gives Reid a soundbyte he can use when he pitches all the old folks on how Angle wants to cut their social security scaring the elderly into supporting him again.

Maybe Angle should have just slugged the "reporter". That tactic seems to work for Democrats.

Of course. And Angle was the weakest choice to run against him. Which she's showing now. NV was previously considered a lock to flip parties. Now it's being rated a toss-up race even with his low approval ratings.

I like how a guy who works for a news outlet gets scare quotes around reporter but a (possible faux) student with a flip phone is a "journalist".

Far better to insist that your campaign website is filled with Harry Reid's lies and then run away. Brilliant!

I liked her answer to the question about how Obama created the 14% unemployment and caused all them home foreclosures. She answered with stimulus monies, bail-outs and Obama-care.

You can't win a race just by repeating "Harry Reid is bad!" You have to, at some point, coherently explain exactly how you would be better. She hasn't been able to do that yet.

I disagree.

I don't know jack **** about this woman, other than she sounded like an idiot on camera. I did take the opportunity to look at her issues web site, though, and have a couple of comments.

Quote:
Free market alternatives, which offer retirement choices to employees and employers, must be developed and offered to those still in their wage earning years, as the Social Security system is transitioned out. Young workers must be encouraged to investigate personal retirement account options.

Ok, sure. She wants to transition away from a government backed retirement income entitlement to personal and private investment. I can dig that. But...am I going to get a refund for all of the SS I've paid in to? Will she merely replace that SS "tax" with some other tax, thereby nullifying any income I might have been able to invest due to the dismantling of the SS program?

She also says "emergency rooms can no longer serve as primary care facilities for the uninsured", and yet one of her "solutions" to the cost of "Obamacare" is the "elimination of coverage mandates". Has she considered the impact of the latter on the former, at all?

She seems to be on board with nuclear energy, which I'm cool with, but goes on to say "Cap and Trade will injure the free market system and cripple America's energy supplies. Cap and Trade, which is based on an unscientific hysteria over the man-caused global warming hoax, steps over the constitutional boundaries of the federal government and is merely another way to tax the people." Smiley: um... yeah. Even if anthropogenic climate change were a complete hoax and absolutely no science existed to back it up (which is completely and utterly false), I still think industry should be federally regulated with regards to the amount of pollution it generates, mostly because I have zero faith in any for-profit industry to properly regulate itself on the matter.

And then, here's the kicker...

Quote:
Sharron Angle supports tax reform that leads to a simpler, fairer, flatter tax system...Nevada taxpayers have to work until July 5th, every year, just to meet their tax obligations.[/b]

Really? There's a law in Nevada that says you have to work from January 1st to July 5th to pay your taxes every year, regardless of your employment status or income level? Huh. Must suck to live there, then.

Maybe she wants the uninsured to die in the streets, smart guy.

No, really?

Bear in mind that this picture is from SE Tennessee, near the Georgia/SC border. Here's what it looks like these days. That pool in the picture is the site of a mine collapse. You can see the vegetation has recovered to some extent, but it is by no means as lush as it was in the pre-mining era.

And that's her problem. What is she going to do differently, besides stick it to Harry Reid and Obama? (If she wins, of course, Harry Reid won't be an issue at all.) She is unable to give any hows or whys. What bills will she introduce? If we go by what's on her website, as the journalist did, we can assume that it will involve privatization of SS. But she's afraid to actually say that out loud, for fear someone will hear her.

If she's elected, will she continue to blame Harry Reid every time someone asks her a question?

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or not. Assuming you are, why is that a bad answer? All of those things ultimately place financial burden on the source of jobs. Even actions which just make the future less certain for business results in hiring freezes and tighter hold on investment, which has a negative impact on employment. While I might not associate that with the home foreclosures, it's not an unreasonable answer.

Oh. And more generally to the topic at hand: The only way Reid manages to win is if the GOP candidate can be made to look like a moonbat. And in marches the liberal media to the rescue!

I know you like to claim that everything is a conspiracy run by the liberals, but you can't possibly think they somehow doctored this video to show her radically avoiding the question here. You're so blinded to the truth that you can't even admit the GOP is fielding a bad candidate. Allegory is right; this is at the level of religious fervor for you.

This isn't a major surprise anyway. Anyone keeping track of Tea Party politics knew that they had a substantial chance of ******** things up for the GOP this election cycle by splitting the vote.
