I have a little bit of a problem with this statement:

Sure, okay; but since that isn't likely to happen anytime soon, is this really the best answer you can summon up? "Someone else's problem"?
It's a fact that race and social status are factors in sentencing. Are we all okay with killing poor black people disproportionately regardless of the crime for which they were convicted?*
Alternatively, would we all be okay with making some white collar crimes punishable by death?
*Yeah, I know. But let's pretend we care about ethics for the sake of argument, 'k?
