First, it's not "better" open-minded, it's "more" open-minded.

Non-native American English speakers can be excused for getting this one wrong.

It would read "How is not giving someone an opportunity to make a place better [being] open-minded?"

Similar example: "How is not slapping your ho in the face but punching her in the kidney progressive?"

That's true, and I think I'm gonna stick with that for a while.

Yes, based on his quoted statements.

Also, just to follow up: any comment on why you believe it is not naive to trust this guy to deliver meaningful political leadership?

No, he's too busy trying to make something of himself.

Because he served in the military and is thus infallible.

I'm really excited about Roxanne Conlin winning the nomination to go against Chuck Grassley, a too-long time parrot for the most conservative of our state. I worked for her while she was suing Microsoft, and she definitely ranks as one of the best bosses I've had. She's kind of a crazy cat lady, and it's going to be a hard fight to beat him, but she won by I believe 78%, which is a good sign. Plus, she's got plenty of money in her back pocket for the cost it's going to take for her to run her campaign, with her husband also being a successful property management company owner in the state. Very recently he donated one of his old buildings for a place for displaced women to stay when the city closed down the YWCA.

And, even with all the money she has, she drives a 7 year old Lexus. I saw her about a year ago at Walgreens buying stuff for her cats. And these are the reasons I support Roxanne Conlin for Senate. I may even volunteer, because she used to treat me so ridiculously well as a boss that I feel like I owe her back.

I ain't ******* calling anyone though.

Can't believe no one's mentioned that he's facing felony charges right now too.

Seeing as the article included his picture, it'd be rather redundant.

Apparently Joe Everyman has a pending felony out there for some obscenity charge or another. From how it reads, he was showing obscene pictures to some college chick. How this is a felony, I don't know but then I don't live in South Carolina either.

The AP reported that Greene, 32, was arrested in November and charged with showing obscene Internet photos to a University of South Carolina student. But since then, there's been no indictment or plea entered.

The AP report says Greene was accused of showing photos to a woman and talking about going to her room at a university dorm

Um...what kind of felony is that? Closest I can think of is harassment, unless the "woman" in question is a ten-year-old prodigy going to college.

Hey, he was kicked out of the military too!
ABC News wrote:
He returned to Manning, Ga., last August when he was involuntarily forced out of the Army after a 13 year career because "things just weren't working… it was hard to say." He had served as an intelligence specialist in the Air Force and later as a unit supply specialist in the Army.

On the other hand, he was an "intelligence specialist". If he can lie about his service, what awards he won and whether or not he ever served during Operation Iraqi Freedom, he can fill in a GOP slot for senator from Illinois.

"Hey, baby, I'm a candidate for US Senate" is probably more likely to get you co-ed tail then flashing a bunch of Hustler clippings anyway.

Sen. DeMint, a Tea Party darling and leader of the GOP's far-right flank, wasn't expecting a competitive challenge this election cycle. But conservative activists are already thrilled to see the Democrats' hand-picked candidate go down in flames.

Riiiight. Sounds like a lot of thought went into this candidacy. Don't get me wrong. If he goes all Pursuit of Happyness on us I'll be tickled pink, but it doesn't sound like he has the means to google "Tea Party stance on...", so I'm not holding out much hope.

Agreed! To give an example. There was this guy in Austin that would run for office every year. All he did was put up a sign in his yard. After several years he won the office. His grass roots way and ideas changed the city and a couple of years later he was the mayor of the city. He did great things for the city while in office and moved on back to his home and out of the political spotlight when he had finished his 2nd term.

The incident took place November 12, 2009 at the Bates House residence hall on the University of South Carolina's campus. A female student reported that a man, later identified as Greene, sat down beside her in the computer lab.

The student did not know Greene.

She said the man asked her for her name, room number, and phone number, but she did not give it to him. She told officers that five minutes later, he told her to look at his computer screen, which she said had pornographic images on it. She told him that it was "offensive and not funny," and started to leave. The incident report states that Greene then asked her if he could come to her room, and she told him to leave her alone. The student said she then went up to her room and told her resident mentor about the incident.

Smoooove. Yeah, this guy is going to set the political establishment on its ear.
