Who is it going to be, Re-Tread Governor Jerry Brown or Dot Com Bubble Cast Off Meg Whitman? Is there a Democrat alive willing to take on the same public employee unions he empowered nearly 4 decades ago? Is there a Republican alive who can convince Californians that their loony spending habits really do have to change in order to not go in to receivership? Are either of these two that person? Or will this just boil down to another he said/she said partisan fight?

I was in a debate the other day with someone from California about water usage and the Great Lakes Compact. I always thought it was Texans who were the most insufferably smug about their state but I think this woman had them beat. Eventually it was more amusing to just troll her along and watch her say "We have the 7th largest economy! We produce the nation's olive supply! We make movies loved the world over! You owe us! Everyone owes us!"

Thanks for the insight. I don't know that I could have formulated a decent opinion of the situation without it.

I love it when people try to be insulting, but only come off as petty. Oh, I'm sorry. Did I insult someone with eight thousand posts that believes I need to change my life?

I wasn't trying to be insulting and I am petty. I also think that based on the 5 offerings I've seen from you so far that you're a disgrace to the Corp. You're nothing but a petulant child that most likely joined up for free college money and none of the other branches would have you. My career advice stands based solely on that.

As far as insulting me, you couldn't possibly.

You mean you hate it when people do petty things like pointing out someone else's post count?

But on a serious note, as a resident, I feel there is a good chance Ca. is actually starting to realize a few things.

Even if for the wrong reasons. Time will tell.

Now THAT'S funny. Right now the Marine Corps is one of the harder branches to get into. Army will take people 38 years old. Navy has a tendency to overlook certain.. events. I was accepted into the air force because of my test scores but I chose this branch because I wanted the best training possible. Again, old Corps where any moron could get in (I'm assuming you were enlisted at one point) vs. new Corps where you can't even make it in if you have a sleeve anymore, and if you do you'll need to have all sorts of waivers because of a TATTOO.

Point proven.

Edit: By the way, it's CORPS. CORPS. WITH AN S. I'm tired of correcting people about that.

Your logic: You say something about californians, I say something as well. I'm the problem. Wouldn't that make you the problem as well? Or are you just going off my other posts because you don't understand and likely never will?

I made no statements in my original posts. I asked several questions. You answered none of them. You added nothing to the conversation but distraction & sport. Pretty sure the one of us that's a problem is not in Minnesota today.

With the context of those questions, you think someone's going to answer? Someone sure needs a happy pill.

Pretty much. And I don't take happy pills. I'm a grumpy son of a *****.

If this is what your ******** about then every single poster on this board is a problem.

As for California, they should really cut down on how much they brag about their state, and start cutting how much they spend as a state.

The state of California has plenty to brag about. Fiscal responsibility and understanding isn't one of them. I just can't understand the logic behind the choice of Jerry f'ucking Brown or Meg Whitman.

Granted, I can't understand the logic behind Jerry Brown regardless of his opponent, but I really don't get the Meg Whitman thing. I don't see her riding herd on the California Legislature.

She's telling people what they want to hear: that the problems are fixable, and that the fix is simple.

Spend less! How very easy.

Nobody wants to hear that the state economy is huge and complex, and that no matter what you do, there will be some pain and some unhappy people as a result.

She has spent billions - billions - of dollars convincing people that she knows what she's talking about. Had she just contributed that money to the state budget we'd be much closer to solvent. Smiley: laugh

How is it down in CA? I'm tentatively considering moving there for a stint.

I heard her personal campaign spending was around $150 million so far. Are you including something else or being creative? I'm just curious, because if that is real than the outside contributors should really hear about the foundation I'm setting up.

There isn't an easy fix to the CA situation. They let the horse out of the barn decades ago and it's about to drown in the Mississippi River.

The saddest thing I saw when I was there was a broken elevator on the UC Berkeley campus with a sign: "Elevator repairs have been delayed due to budget issues. See Jenny at the front office for more information." This was in a 4 story building with classrooms, and no other working elevator, and no means for anyone to get to the top two floors in a wheelchair. I'm sure the ADA would have something to say about it.
