North Korea's drugs have clearly stopped working. That's the problem with cheap Asian imports...

The French team visited an orphanage in Cape Town today. "It's heartbreaking to see their sad little faces with no hope", said Jamal aged 6.

Never thought I'd say this, but I'm *almost* ashamed to be French.

Think I'm going to ask for footballing asylum in Argentina, and start from scratch on some isolated farm in Patagonia.

That's the way the US looked in 2006 Red, I know exactly how you feel. Well, except that no one cares how the US does as long as they don't win it all. You can take some solace in the tabloids if England can't manage a win tomorrow.

That's true, there's always that.

It's more than just the football though, it's the everything behind the scenes as well. You have to show certain values to represent France in the WC, and this group of players never did. From the laboured qualifications, to the hand-ball against Ireland to qualify, the fights, the cliques, the strikes, the retarded manager... It's just been one long, painful, unravelling.

Still, at least now it's goodbye to Domenech, and hello to Laurent Blanc. As D:REAM woudl say, things can only get better.

On an unrelated note, WTF is up with Greek names? Papastathopoulos? Excuse me, are you f'ucking Indian or something?

At least they've got more vowels than the Poles.

Nope, they're greek.

Gutted Messi somehow still hasn't managed to score having hit the post twice now plus numerous close calls.

Being English I'm really not looking forward to tomorrow, my confidence in the team is at an awful low after the draw to Algeria.

Another goal erased. So much for favoring the attacking side in those "judgement" calls.

Baelnic,

And this is why most americans couldn't care less about soccer.

Fortunately we have real sports like basketball, football, and baseball.

Basketball: men on stilts that take 3 steps and cover the entire court.

Football: a game of chess, where the playmakers are the only players.

Baseball: 30 seconds of athleticism interspersed with naps and beer commercials.

Ash,

I've seen european american style football. High school teams in the states would own them. And don't get me started on the p*ssy europeans that try and play basketball; guess that's why they have their little rule that only allows two americans per team. I'm not a huge fan of baseball so rag on them all you want.

Until europe starts utilizing instant replay on questionable calls like the two goals taken away from americans I just can't get into it no matter how much I try. I know the refs will simply not let america win. Part of that whole global jealousy issue I guess.

Yeah because officials in 'Merican games are any better. Seriously has there ever been a good basketball referee?

Oh, and the instant replay thing. I don't really care. If anything bad calls give us something to ***** about at the bar.

Le Hand of Henry was awful, but it gave me all the reason in the world to root against France, a side I couldn't normally be bothered to watch or care about.

Baelnic,

Instant replay is the best thing that's happened to american sports in decades. Now when a receiver pretends to catch a dropped ball we don't have to worry about whether or not the ref makes the right call. Same for basketball, if a player has his entire foot over the 3 point line they can review that to get it right. In a game where maybe 1 goal is scored I don't think it's a bit much to review whether someone was offsides or not. Instead you have one of the better teams probably going home because the rest of the world hates america.

This world cup has set soccer back in the US probably 20yrs.

We're not one of the better teams in the tournament. We're middle of the pack. We have a lot of talent but we've yet to have that break through that legitimately places us in the top 1/3rd of teams in the tournament.

Amazing goal.

Gratz to the Brits for making it through and gratz to you yanks with that German style victory there.

Edit: with the English being second in the group there's a pretty realistic chance of them playing Germany in the next round. That's going to be hard to get past.

Did England change their flag or something? I keep seeing a white flag with a red cross next to them.

That was fucking cool.

That's sad, considering most of the people playing in Europe are Americans.
