Honestly, Spain only have themselves to blame. 25-odd shots and not a single goal, that's just poor.
This, pretty much.
Spain stopped doing anything good each time they got close to the goal.

It's like watching the resurgence of the trap in hockey. Everyone that is outclassed is packing it in at the back and dropping 10 players. Boring soccer but it can be effective as proved by North Korea and Switzerland.

That's funny. I was making the same comment to one of my employees this morning. Dull but effective. I wonder how many of the teams give a sh;t about the entertainment value if it gets them a point.

South Africa, probably, and we all saw where it got them.

I don't want to jinx it, but I think it will get better from now on. To be fair, it can't really get worse in terms of goals scored.

And, obviously, ALLEZ LES BLEUS!!!

They just weren't very good, to be honest. Having the ball in their opponents' half seemed to confuse them, and they'd either pass it backwards or just blast it from some spot they had no chance of scoring from. The first goal from Uruguay was really good, though if it hadn't just caught the head of that SA player it might have been saved.

I agree SA were quite awful last night, whilst Forlan was in great shape. Suarez looked good too. Uruguay might be a bit of a surprise package.

Looking forward to seeing more of Messi today.

Blanco cracks me up. He's like the John Kruk of football. Overweight, acts like an old man (Blanco is actually an old man unlike Kruk), but somehow does what he needs to get in the game.

Pizza for every French goal conceded. Mr. Henry aught to double the limits on the promotion and appear in the ads. I mean, he isn't going to actually get in a game this go around anyway.

Thankfully I had food poisoning last night, so I spent all night throwing up. Which is good, because at least I didn't have to see this debacle...

Spain, France and Germany all lost to smaller teams. Whoever said this wasn't an exciting WC...

Predictions for the US game? I think a narrow win for the US, 1-0 or 2-1.

I think it was a real-time sympathetic reaction.

Hope you're feeling better!

I'm going 2-0 US, Red.

It's too bad you missed the France game. It was fun to watch the Mexicans push the French around physically. Even Dos Santos was pushing people around, something he's not really known for.

Good luck to Dempsey not going in the book for the early elbow to the head.

I don't know if I can see a win here. 1 goal margin will be a feat, but I'm calling it 1-1.

The difference in skill between Robbie Findley and Charlie Davies is huge. We're really going to miss Charlie in a game like this.

GG. Scrappy little bunch of guys. Where was this intensity against Algeria?
#94 Jun 18 2010 at 9:06 AM Rating: Good
Back from the brink, just one down now. Nice to see them come out with some intensity in the second half.

Back in it! That was fortunate and pretty. You kinda have to ignore the US announcers. Lalas keep saying that Torres shouldn't be tracking back on defense but that was exactly why he was substituted.

What was the call there?

They must have called a hold on Bocanegra.
