This is getting ridiculous. Another missed call by the linesman... the beautiful game is starting to look ugly.

This is going to go down as a day in history for advocates of video technology at the goal line. There have been some ugly calls out there.

I honestly don't see why Fifa wouldn't at least test live replays other than being stubborn. It would greatly increase general "fairness" of the game. Hell, if they are so bothered with it ruining flow of match they could limit it to couple times per team per match. Like it is in tennis.

I understand that it goes against tradition but when they came up with rules matches were a lot slower. Players are conditioned better, they run faster (on average of course). Technologically advanced balls travel at higher velocities. It all makes it harder for refs to follow game, why not making their lives easier. If not in leagues or low tier cups then in LM matches or Federation Cups.

Also, if Blatter is so vehemently against technology, what the fuck is he doing on Twitter?!

Yay Netherlands winning. Deserved goal by Slovakia though, even if it's a bit of a lame penalty in the last second.

If all the teams we play again score an own goal or royally **** up at some point, I'm perfectly OK with that.

I think that "own goal" was heading in anyway.

It's just an observation. You don't really think the Dutch team played well, do you?

I couldn't watch the entire game since I'm at work but every time I had a chance to look at the game, the Dutch were the most convincing team.

They played pretty sharp. Brazil were just as sharp at the beginning, but they lost their cool real quick.

Well done to the Oranges. I can't say I feel sorry about the exit of the most boring Brazilian team since, well, the last WC probably. That stamp by Melo was beyond retarded. He'd better hire some bodyguards when he gets back to Brazil.

I was thinking the same thing. Wasn't he the one that scored own goal, too? He's going to have a bad time I think.

Just as sharp? They sliced apart the Dutch defence like it was made of paper - though, to be fair, it kind of was. Their (the Dutch) strikers were just as bad.

Don't get me wrong, Brazil fucked up bad losing their cohesion and then their tempers, but the dutch team didn't go through because it got better, it went through because the Brazilians got much, much worse. They might have deserved the game, but it's a blow to the WC as a whole to have the worse team go through.

It's not the most dazzlingly offensive Brazilian team, but the Netherlands are playing like an England squad only a bit better, which is to say scrappy, boring and over-reliant on headers.

So does this count as a Brazilian slump? Two finals missed? Time to fire everyone and start over right?

I guess we can't have a World Cup anymore with a super talented player not getting sent off for stomping someone.

I think you're underestimating them. They show good movement through the midfield, they did ok with having to replace their centerback 5 mins before kick-off, but I do agree that they don't look to be the best team left in the tournament. That being said, you don't have to be the best looking team in the tournament to win it (see Italy 2006).

It may count as an own goal against brazil but that ball was going in anyway. All the brazilian could have done to stop it was catch it with his hands. The goalie was out of the picture. By far the best score of the WC so far.

I quite liked the double header goal that was Holland's second. It looked like a rock skipping on a lake.
