And now for something completely differentFollow

The World Cup kicks off in a week, and since we have a few aficionados round these here parts, I think it's high time it got its own thread.

So without further ado, here are my previsions:

Winners: Spain

Semi finalists: England, Brazil, Germany.

Dark Horses: US, Ivory Coast if Drogba plays.

Things to watch out for:
Maradona getting banned for drugs consumption, as manager this time.
France manager sacrificing a goat.
England losing in the semis. On penalties. Against Germany.
North Korea players asking for asylum in South Africa. Or possibly neighbouring Zimbabwe.
Cristiano Ronaldo diving about like he's been shot by a sniper in the stands, and then crying when Portugal go out.
Media reports of coked-up armed teenagers roaming the streets of Jo'burg. Yeah, well, it is Tuesday.
Posts affirming how much soccer really sucks, but like, really.

This about the only time I really pay attention to soccer. I'll stop for 2-3 minutes if I'm channel surfing any other time, but World Cup is more exciting. I love watching the losers cry like babies.

England's group seems pretty boring.

Honestly guys, Honduras? You're not there because of Honduras?

For me, it time to go to the Pub and enjoy a Guinness or two, watching the games live on their big screen HDTV.

The James Joyce opens early so expats can watch the games live during the World Cup and as Ugly said, World Cup is far more exciting, then soccer matches during the rest of the year.

I'm most looking forward to the US side advancing #1 out of group with a disappointed England in the lower seed. If we can pull a draw or (gasp!) a win in game 1 I'll be a prick about it to my English board-mates.

Winner I bet it'll be those goddamned Germans again.

As for the Netherlands, they're in a relatively weak pool so the pool games are goimng to be horrendous, filled with disgustingly bad and boring play and we will collectively moan and cry about it.
After the pool, which they'll barely make it through they'll either fail without glory versus a slightly tougher opponent or go on a roll and get to the (semi) finals, in which they'll be knocked out in the last minute of extra time by the Germans.

Which probably still beats the previous European Championships where they beat France and Italy before failing miserably versus the Russians with none of the glory left that was omnipresent in the previous matches.

So, business as usual then?

The US are good, but they won't beat England. 2nd of the group is pretty good, and I can see the US beating Germany. They really have a **** team this year.

I'm really liking Holland this year. Van Persie, Robben, Sjneider, Van der Vaart, that's some pretty awesome forwards. Quarters at least, Semis possibly.

Yeah, pretty much.

I am not putting money on the upset, but it would be nice. Also, I'd rather have Serbia than Germany regardless of how crap they are this year.

Don't ask me, I just go places with people so I don't have to drink alone.

Serbia and Germany would be heavy favourites in a Genocide World Cup.

Group A: France, South Africa
Group B: Greece, Argentina
Group C: England, USA
Group D: Germany, Serbia
Group E: Netherlands, Cameroon maybe
Group F: Italy, Whoevencares
Group G: Brazil, Portugal
Group H: Spain, Honduras

I'm going to be supporting Italy, I think. I predict England loses its first game out of the group stages.

To fully appreciate a World Cup in England, I highly recommend visiting a pub with a curvaceous American chick, getting rat-****** and watching her blag free flags and shirts off impressionable drunken England fans.

Nobby + Darqflame + Chavs + World Cup Game in an Pub

How much stuff did you get given that day Darqflame?

One of these things is not like the other. One of these things just doesn't belong.

Could it be the skin suit in the back hanging out with all the people young enough to bear his grandkids?

Wow, that was the best WC, nay soccer, ad I've ever seen. However, you should qualify my opinion by these two facts:

1. I've probably only watched two soccer ads in my lifetime, that one being one of them.
2. I still won't be watching the WC, because I'm an unenlightened American.
