I'm not going to spend an age researching prices for a "best deal", so broadly speaking

Astra Twintop: 21,000
BMW 1 Series Convertable: £23,000

I know which one I would be buying... and it's made by Ze Jarmanz!

Hellzyeah me too!

1. I replace every 3 years
2. The BMW is too small, I can't physically get in the little bugger
3. The TwinTop puts out 150bhp and has averaged 45mpg over 36,000 miles
4. I have a photo that I ain't posting here of the speedometer at 140mph on ze autobahn
5. My car, like the BMW, was built by ze Chermans, and the roof is designed and made by the same outfit that do Merc SLKs

Pfft, I've done close to 140 in a Saturn.

Edit: my mistake, it was a Mazda 626 not a Saturn. Close to the same car anyways.

We did 120+ on I35 in a Ford Escape, so 140 doesn't impress me. C'mon Nobbs, put your foot in it! Smiley: grin

Sadly, though, you can’t have one because it would mean telling your friends and family that you’d bought a Vauxhall. Which is exactly the same as telling them that your whole life has been a failure.

This new Astra, to my mind, has the same ring as Marks & Spencer and the Consumers’ Association. It’s worthy and sensible but blighted with a badge that says you’re an absolute dullard and that you may live in Baldock. Certainly you will have a pair of Rohan trousers. Vauxhall is a badge of honour for those who think a prawn cocktail is exotic, London is dirty and there’s nothing wrong with an own-brand stereo system.

lol.

Ok, that was taken way out of context and even I can't stoop that low. He had mostly nice things to say about.

My car's acceleration curve doesn't even start slowing down until 120. I've accidentally hit 100 without noticing. Of course, I get about a third the gas mileage of the Nobmobile, so there's that... ;)

I would say 60/40 split on not 5 years vs 5 years. Maybe it's all those earth quakes, because it's certainly not the severity of the weather as it's far worse here. Maybe it's that here they only get used 4-5 months, vs 12 where you are?

Could also be that we have extremely long periods with zero rainfall as well. Maybe dries out the seals? Dunno. Almost everyone I've known who's owned a car with a sunroof for more than 5-6 years has had some kind of leak problem. Usually, it's one of the corners starts dripping at some point. And the older the car the more likely it's either got a leak, or has had one that had to be fixed.

It's not like it's the end of the world or anything, I just personally don't see the point of cutting a hole in a perfectly good rooftop for something that's only marginally functionally useful. I live in Southern California and I want to have a roof that let's the sun beat down on the top of my head? Um...

Mine either, boy that's an exciting 11 seconds, then I have to shift out of 4th.

Exciting? I'm usually lightly pressing on the pedal while sipping a tasty beverage. But maybe for you there's effort and strain involved... ;)

Considering I drive Nexa's Corrola most of the time, I have to let all of the vehicle related testosterone out I can at any opportunity. "I go the speed limit with Hannah's car seat in the back, YEAH!" just doesn't have the same machismo factor.

lol I remember when they brought the Sterling to the U.S. (Acura Legend Clone).

They put the Steering wheel on the U.S. side & left the Hood release on the other.

Really a humorous Fuxup.

I've never seen 120 thanks to a speed limiter. :(

Not really worth chipping my car, though. It probably wouldn't go much faster anyway.

The BMW hardtop is quite nice, albeit the wind patterns in the back are a bit choppy. Haven't ridden in an Astra for reasons listed above.

Must just be for us Saturn owners, because according to gbaji, EVERYONE he knows with a sunroof has it leak, so therefore ALL sunroofs EVERYWHERE ALWAYS leak, or something like that.
