He requested Obama hold BP accountable and Obama has said that they will pay for all the damage recovery so yes?

He means Jindal's request to dredge the shallows and throw down a bunch of artificial sandbars in from of the wetlands, a solution which some think could impact the area worse than the oil itself.

Jindal hasn't gotten approval yet because the Powers That Be haven't decided yet which is the least-killing cure. The fact that he wasn't given instant approval means that Obama hates Indian People.

Yes. This afternoon, actually.

I don't know why Jindal wants so much government help; it's not like the Army CoE has been able to protect Louisiana's coast before.

Debo,

Do you even remotely remember how Katrina was handled? The first thing W did was call the governor and ask what he could do to help. The Democrats in charge said they could handle it on their own; then a few days later when they realized they couldn't handle the problem they turned around and blamed W for the slow federal govn response.

In this situation Obama has done his best to ignore the situation even though Jindal has been begging for the govn to just allow them to fix it themselves.

See the difference in leadership?

This sentence seems to be ignoring even the most tenuous pretenses at logic.

Yeah, the question was whether the barriers would fix it or just fuck it up worse.

It seems to, but if you know what's involved in letting Louisiana fix it themselves, you'd understand that it doesn't.

They were given approval today.

A quick visit to Google News now and then would really save you a lot of unnecessary angst.

Well, unless you expected Obama to call BP and offer to stick his finger in the wellhead until they figured out what to do, I'm not sure what you're trying to say here.

They were given limited approval today for a partial implementation.

More than 2 weeks after the request was made.

Yes, and?

Hey, it sounds almost as though they spent two weeks doing an evaluation and determining that a full blown implementation was a bad idea. Those scamps!

And now the oil is 12 miles in to the marshes. Had they been authorized when asked the oil would have stayed in the gulf.

And maybe oil in the marshes is overall less damaging than giant dredged sandbars everywhere. Hence the delay and the partial implementation. I doubt either of us are qualified to say.

That's as dumb as not implementing the approved solution because burning the oil would make the air quality worse for a little while.

Actually, it looks as though one of the objections to the sand is that it'll just funnel the oil elsewhere into someone else's marshes and wetlands.
Daily Comet wrote:
HOUMA — Sand barriers, barges and boom are all methods Terrebonne Parish officials say they will use to protect the community from encroaching oil spewing out of an unchecked well in the Gulf of Mexico.

But a high-ranking Coast Guard official told locals that his agency is opposed to building up islands as part of the state's sand-barrier plan.

It's not “a viable solution,” Coast Guard Capt. Roger Laferriere told the Parish Council at its Wednesday meeting.

The wall of sand could funnel oil into more unprotected areas and into neighboring Mississippi, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said in documents released Wednesday.

Gov. Bobby Jindal and leaders from several coastal parishes want to ring the state's southeastern coastline with a $350 million network of sand berms. However, the corps says the barrier could inadvertently alter tides and end up driving oil east — into Mississippi Sound, the Biloxi Marshes and Lake Borgne.

Edit: Another article stated that berms wouldn't be effective in some areas and would just interfere with the legitimate clean-up efforts.

Keep trying what? I quoted the Coast Guard saying what their issue with it was. Now you know why the magic sand berm fairy didn't come and wave her wand the very second Jindal wished upon a star.

Top kill procedures are currently suspended "to assess the results of the first phase of the top kill and monitor the pressure in the well." The well is still leaking as much as ever, apparently.

Life feed shows nothing useful right now. :-\
