I'm sure he's already read it, but I'd recommend The History of Pi to Kaolin.

Do you mean Life of Pi??

If so, yes, its a great read.

I have not read that one.

This one:

Sorry: I got the title slightly wrong. It is "A History of Pi" by Petr Beckmann.

Elizabeth moon came out with a new Pakseneron novel

New as in #4 or has she been milling them out and I just didn't know?

I liked the original trilogy, even if #2 read more like an AD&D adventure than anything else. The first Gird book was pretty good although the second didn't impress me. This is all through the filter of fifteen years or so though.

it would be number 4. Haven't read it yet. Usually she's one of my "automatically buy the hardcover" authors, but Liars Oath irritated me, so I keep going back and forth on waiting for the paperback on it. But then again i'm out of books again too. May read it this weekend.

I'm reading the "Song of Fire and Ice" books, which I never got around to before this, but I'm starting to get the sense I frequently get with fantasy novels that what should have been an entertaining trilogy is turning into a laborious never ending "epic". I think I'll probably finish A Game of Swords and call it good.

It's a long series, and it isn't finished yet. Martin manages to keep it fresh and has no problem killing off characters that you'd think would be main to the story. Personally, I love it so far. I can't wait for the next book in the series, which was scheduled for "summer '08" but last I checked is coming out this September.

Yeah, I wouldn't bet on that one if I were you.

Well, the fact that they bother to update the release with an actual date, and wiki doesn't say he's dead, makes me hopeful.

Every few months they add a few months to the release day. The publisher's have no idea when it will be released because the GRRM has no idea when the book will actually be finished.
