Driving and texting.Follow

Please don't drive and Text. Not for the faint of heart. This is a good one to show teens.
AMS Team, as we are learning and appreciating communication devices like cell phones, blackberries, etc., and the simplicity and quickness of “texting”, please keep in mind how dangerous it is to drive and text at the same time….looking out the windshield and on a little screen while using your thumbs to send and read messages while using a hand to steer…our hands and eyes cannot be doing two very different things at the same time.

I am attaching a link to a texting and driving video made in Europe to warn of the dangers of texting while driving. Let me warn you in advance that it is very disturbing. In addition, if any of you want to share it with others, please tell them to review it before they show it to kids of driving age and if the kids do not drive yet, I would probably not show it to them.

In the workplace M-F and during our personal time and on weekends…we must be smart, don’t text and drive please, for your sake and those of others.

My Blackberry doubles as my GPS device. Does it count when I'm typing up an address while stopped at a light?

How about punching up an mp3? That's about as distracting as changing stations on the car radio.

Suppose it depends on the specific law in question, but I'd assume "yes". There's a reason why stock in-dash GPS systems will not allow you to input a destination while the car is in gear. They also have to be positioned at a certain height (I know this because my new car doesn't have one because the display is .5 inches too low). The danger really is trying to divide your attention between something you're holding in your hand and the view outside your car while driving.

Sure. If it's mounted in the car. ******** with your ipod while it's plugged into the aux port of your radio is a hell of a lot more likely to cause an accident. It's still probably a bad idea to do anything that requires more than a single button push here or there. Browsing through a menu system while driving is a bad idea no matter where the screen and buttons are.

I know I'll sound like a bit of a prick for saying this, but I sometimes really really enjoy brake checking someone who's texting.

Also, for going through an MP3 player, I had Ford SYNC in a rental and it was @#%^ing awesome. I still miss it.

Yeah. The Sync system is pretty darn nice. Unfortunately, you have to buy a Ford to get it...

Oh come on. You should support the only American car company that didn't rely on a bailout. ;)

I can't stand people who text/talk while driving. Yes, the accident factor is there, but even more bothersome to me is that it invariably makes them crappy drives period. And I seriously hates me some bad drivers.

In conclusion, people who do this should be punished by having their anuses extracted through their noses.

Can I get an AMEN?

I'll bet y'all drive autoamtics, too. I mean, if you can't co-ordinate your left foot with your right hand, there's a lot you shouldn't be doing.

Automatics cater to my laziness.

I've driven a manual once and honestly it wasn't too hard. Maybe I should get a manual as my next car.

I never learned manual because I never wanted to drive in the first place and decided I wasn't going to make it any harder. Besides, manual driving is painful as a passenger.

I ride in a manual car all the time and this is only true if the driver is feeling particularly aggressive.

I drive an automatic because its almost impossible to roll a spliff and drive safely in a manual imo.
