Just more from the socialist that is our president;

Quote:
The report includes familiar themes, emphasizing the importance of improved nutrition and physical activity. It also calls for some new and dramatic efforts to curtail marketing of unhealthy foods.

"We have a roadmap for implementing our plan across our government and across the country," Michelle Obama told reporters today.

But administration officials repeatedly emphasized the effort would rely on "bully pulpit" pressure and not any new federal mandates to push the changes

Quote:
But Federal Trade Commission Chairman Jon Leibowitz said, "A regulatory approach is certainly not where we want to start." He told a briefing, "You start by pushing self-regulation, by pushing your bully pulpit; sometimes shaming companies that don't do enough."

Quote:
The task force also sees a potential pocketbook approach to keep people from buying unhealthy foods. It calls for analyzing the effect of imposing state and local sales taxes on less healthy products.

So is this Leibowitz guy our new Food Czar?

Also, fingers crossed, maybe they'll disallow food stamp cards from being able to purchase food that is deemed unhealthy by the federal govn.

You're going to highlight the phrase "Bully pulpit" and act all offended and ignore the lack of federal mandates? Were you hoping for some new laws?

Also, I don't think you understand what "bully pulpit" means.

Confusing. You railed months ago about (among other things) that Michelle Obama was fat, that the new health personnel Obama hired were fat, that fat people shouldn't get insurance, and that health insurance reform just helps fat lazy people. Now when Michelle Obama is pushing healthy eating without any actual regulations, you're against it.

Tell us, Knoxtradamus, how would you solve the current issue of obesity in America?

By eliminating the lower-middle class, obviously. It used to be the only the wealthy had enough money to eat enough to become fat which was a status symbol. These days the junk food is so cheap that the poor are overweight and only the rich can afford to stay in shape. Or something.

What business is of the govn what I eat? Oh that's right you people have allowed the federal govn to take over the health industry so now we must force the citizens to change their habits and live a healthier lifestyle.

This reminds me of that scene from 1984 where the govn forces people to line up every morning for their daily exercises. Is this next for the US?

Want to know how I'd get people to change their eating habits...make them responsible for their own healthcare. OMFG what a concept!

Jophed,

I was amused that Michelle was saying in one breath that they're not going to push any mandates but then the new food czar goes on to say,

Quote:
Leibowitz indicated the FTC would issue new subpoenas to major food marketing and fast food companies that were questioned in 2005 about their marketing approaches. The FTC chief said the agency would determine whether the firms have honored commitments and "whether we can make them do more."

Leibowitz sees some marketing of healthier foods but he concedes "more needs to be done
."

Personally, I don't like that the presidents wife is calling attention to fat kids. Geesh, they get picked on enough with the first lady adding to the heckles.

Poor childhood nutrition is one thing, but it's not limited to overweight kids.

I'm with you, then we can have the federal govn force these people on welfare to exercise daily. Because we all know healthier people need less health insurance. Smiley: oyvey

No, I'd be against that.

For: refusing to pay for crap I wouldn't eat, to feed other people.

Against: forcing other people to do stuff I don't want to do, either.

See, the correct answer is: We tried forcing companies to make their shit healthier, but big-business bed buddies said that would LOLFAILECONOMY. All they did was make their crap seem healthier with convoluted and esoteric nutritional information.

If they don't want to play ball, then it's time to change the rules.

Want to know why it didn't work? People are going to do things that aren't necessarily in their best interest. I know this may be shocking but it's true.

Obviously you don't think you should pay for your own considering you support govn healthcare.

and you did say,

Yup. I'm as Neutral Good as you can get. The Balancer. The White Knight. And the dangerous kind. I'm fully aware that my line of thinking is outside the scope of metaphysical reality. That all people will not simply accept all people.

But I don't care.

I won't stop fighting, clawing and thrashing until that 49.9% acceptance nudges to 50%. My absurd belief in that there is no reason for intolerance, discrimination or any number of your fear-based adjectives WILL serve as an anathema to the percentage of people like you who do not want serious understanding. Those of you who WANT panic and take some sick, guilty pleasure in the chaos. Those who itch to start a fight as a thinly veiled attempt to justify your own insecurities and prejudices.

Of course not. When a flood hits a car it doesn't immediately consume it. Three sides are covered in water, but eventually it is swept away. A mere bump.
