You make that statement and I almost believe you. However, if you honestly think this is Varrus' rational, well, I'll be polite and say you are deluding yourself.

So you admit you're involved in hate speech.

At least I like monkeys.

I don't care what his rationale is, I just don't think we should ban stupidity. Words are just words, and even the most reviled among them can be really funny, depending on the context. I find Varus an amusing context.

I think you're confusing military with military support personnel. I'm not against women serving in the military, just not on the front lines. I also think the don't ask don't tell policy was the best way to go, unless of course you're playing politics.

I'll tell you what, numbchuck. I'll make you a deal. You get to pick and choose who is serving in the military and I'll pick and choose who gets these rights people like you crone about that people like ME fight for.

There seems to me to be an obvious connection between homophobia and testosterone, and the military is a breeding ground for it.

At any rate, so long as there are people (for better or worse) whose performance on the battlefield would be significantly degraded by the knowledge that one or more of the men in their unit is homosexual, I think it's in the best interest of the armed forces, in general, to keep such information off the battlefield.

A) I would assume that the combination of "I don't think" and "there seems to me" in that paragraph to lead a reasonably observant individual to conclude that I was merely opining, not suggesting some reliable conclusion on the matter.

B) I know for a fact that there are people in the military whose performance would be negatively impacted by the knowledge that they were serving with homosexuals, though I admittedly do not know what portion of those in service feel this way, and I do not wish to imply any majority in this case.

C) It is my opinion that an immediate repeal of DADT without any regard whatsoever for the consequences of such action would be ill-advised. Furthermore, I don't give a flying @#%^ about public opinion on the matter, as the only thing that matters is the service men and women (and their families) who have to deal with the issue. Your opinion, like my own, means absolutely nothing to them. To imply otherwise is downright stupid.

And if the linked article is any indication...

Quote:
A new online inbox that enables servicemembers and their families to comment anonymously about the impact of a possible repeal of the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” law has gone live.

The inbox will enable servicemembers and families to offer their thoughts about how a repeal of the law that prohibits gays and lesbians from openly serving in the military might affect military readiness, military effectiveness and unit cohesion, recruiting and retention, and family readiness, a defense official explained.

Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates created an intradepartment, interservice working group to conduct a fair, objective, comprehensive and dispassionate review of these issues, the official said. The online inbox is one method the group will use to systematically engage with the force and their families.

... it seems like Mr. Gates and I agree.

I would think that constantly kicking out fully able-bodied individuals out of the military does a heck of a lot more damage to the military than having a few uncomfortable service members around.

Are you using that Canadian Worker math again?

The error is the same as the range in this case. It's all just plus or minus, come on.

Silly Moe. Gays don't count at all since God don't make 'em.

ALSO: No, I don't really want Varrus banned. Free speech and all that. I just despair that this country of ours still harbors such racist, intolerant, stupid goons. They make the rest of us look bad.

I don't think they make us look bad, I think they make most of us look like enlightened mother f'uckers by comparison and, to be honest, some of us could use that boost.

But without us you'd be overrun by our hostile neighbors to the north.

By your own standards Obama is a racisthttp://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=385x108584 , intolerant (i.e. teabagger comment), goon (any politician coming out of Chicago fits this bill) and bent on the destruction of this great nation to boot. But i'm the bad guy because I distinguish between a thug n*** and regular hard working black american. I know why don't you give welfare cases more of the hardworking americans money that'll solve everything.

And you really don't need our help looking bad, you're doing a pretty good job of that by yourself.

It can be argued that the full integration of blacks into the military actually helped the Civil Rights movement. My mother was a WAC before women were integrated into the regular Army, and she was raised with borderline racist views in her childhood (growing up as a white in Detroit.) However, after she survived basic training and six years in an integrated military, she said that she shed any lingering racist tendencies - after living through the Army, you come to respect ability and rank far more than you do what color a person's skin is.

(My mother always said she didn't care what color a guy I married, so long as he was Catholic. She was disappointed in my husband's lack of religion but approved of the doctor bit so wasn't too upset.)

I'd rather that the majority of front-line troops were women, especially if we're going to be fighting goddamn ragheads for the foreseeable future.

Or do you not believe that humiliating the enemy is a good idea?

Just to clarify a few things, so if you can't stop making assumptions in general, at least you'll stop making assumptions about me.

1) I'm not a Democrat and did not vote for Obama, so stop putting me in the same box.
3) I favor a strong military and gun ownership and have a distaste for abortion
3) My father was a military officer who taught me to judge a person on the content of their character, regardless of color.
4) I have a Korean brother and sister, so I think I can safely discuss race issues since I had to deal with them.
5) The fact that you default to calling an unpleasant black person a "thug ni**a" just drives home that you opperate out of hate.
5) I work on staff at a homeless shelter and can tell you point blank that the men who are here are here almost always due to layoffs. underemployment or low wages. They are not here to "suck off the system". They want to work.

It's crystal clear that long ago you were taught to hate anyone who was different. I'm sorry. I sympathize, I really do. Growing up in such a stunted intellectual and emotional environment was no doubt detrimental to your growth as a decent human being.

You can change, but you have to want to. The fact that you have not means you choose to be an evil, negative prick. I request that at you next Klan gathering, when the cross is about to be torched, you lash yourself to it.

XOXO,

Bijou
