So I just invested in a Home Cinema Blu-ray jobby and I'm starting to get over the clapping my hands like a 5-year old at the sound quality.

So far I'm part way thru re-watching Band of Brothers - love the sounds coming from behind and the 3d audio experience.

I've also watched Avatar (a better film than I remembered from seeing it at the movies) and Ironman (kicks ***).

So which movie would you recommend for High-Definition surround-sound bling?

Acting and no bewbs aside, the sound from Transformers made me a bit wood-ish, if I recall correctly.

Casablanca.

The HD really throws the film's core themes into sharp relief.

Thanks. Sa it on regular DVD and thought it was OK, but I'll check it out.

A friend is lending me Close Encounters and Blade Runner. Looking forward to those.

Oh and watched Saving Private Ryan - even on DVD, upscaled to 1080 and with the rumbly ear lovin', it was like watching it for the 1st time.

Gone In 60 Seconds is always a favourite of mine for sound awesomeness. You should be able to feel the rumbling of the cars.

The Bourne trilogy is also pretty good.

This. Band of Brothers was the first Blu-ray set and I didn't regret it one bit! Some of the outdoor scenes are just plain amazing in terms of quality. Blades of grass, insects buzzing, fantastic...

Any of the special effects films will look great. Iron Man is another one of my early purchases. I wasn't as impressed by either Transformer film though. To "busy" for me. CGI guys really need to learn that just because you can put that much detail and motion in a scene doesn't mean that it's a good idea. It's kinda strange, but I've actually found that TV/cable series tend to look better in HD than most films, even recent ones. I have a few theories about why, but it just seems to be the case. Probably because a series is focusing on different things than a film and paradoxically tend to impress me more with the quality of the visuals than the films. Could be because the film guys are trying to hard.

You might want to pick up Rome as a series set. It's pricey (they charge about $30 more for the blu-ray 2 season set than the DVD version), but worth it. Assuming you liked the series of course. It's a good showcase for the platform. Not as great as Band of Brothers, but very good visually.

Holy crap. I'm not a techno-nerd or anything, but watching Rome on Blu-ray with surround sound would probably give me a *****.

Totally overrated on Blu-Ray. I didn't notice much of a difference (if any) between the DVD and Blu-Ray versions.

Only available in Theatrical version. :-(

I have the extended set of DVDs and look forward to eargasms (especially in Moria) but holding out for the extended edition before investing in Blu-Ray version.

I can't remember which one (I think it's Dark Knight though), but they did some obnoxious thing where the film switches between letterbox and imax formats from scene to scene in the blu-ray version. It's ridiculously annoying...

First and only Blu-Ray I've watched was Speed Racer. But it was an eye-fuck.

Watched 300 last night (future-ex Mrs Nobby raved about it, but I susoect the 6-packs were her motivation).

Good visuals and audio, but still a pale shadow of the original '60s movie.

If you enjoyed the New Star Trek, that one. Sound depth is amazing on it. Don't get LOTR yet, they won't be releasing the extended edition disks until Novemberish. Other than that, second Transformers,

I would have gone with LotR. For the past year, I've been telling people that if I won the lottery first thing I'd do is get a big pumped-up home theater system, the LotR Blu-ray set and a big ole bag of weed and spend a day blowing my mind apart.

But I guess I should wait for that next edition, huh.
