If you're trying to use it to instruct a group of people how to use the tool you designed as part of the new project, it doesn't work nearly as well.

Okay: let's say you *are* trying to do that. What tool would you use? What if they ask detailed questions you need to generate new equations or graphs on the fly to answer?

If I was trying to do that I would be using a shared screen with a session of the tool running in a web conference and demonstrate any questions asked in real time.

Yup. That's exactly right. You have a computer attached to a projector. You can display any program you want on it. If you're showing folks how to use a tool, show them how to use the tool. I suppose you could make a PP with images from the tool to illustrate how to use it, but why? If I'm writing an instruction manual, I'll create an actual document (using Word, or some equivalent), in which I can insert illustrations, diagrams, examples, etc, and in which I can also do a lot more than what PP allows. If I'm giving some pointy hair types an overview of why this tool is important and will save X amount of hours a week in development time for their latest widget, I'll write up a power point, and make sure to include some cost savings in there. If I'm showing a group of engineers how to use the tool, I'll just show them the tool.
