That Reid is putting his re-election hopes ahead of actually accomplishing the stuff that can be passed?

No, I don't think I would.

Actually, Reid is a bit less worried after his likely Republican opponent's latest "Chickens for Checkups" kerfuffle.

(Oh, the NV Dems have been having a field day with that one.)

I love you so much that I act like a dork.

As I recall, part of the rest of the song goes:

She's small and she's odd like a lepton or quark
Oh Björk, oh Björk, oh Björk
She's much more attractive then even judge Bork
Oh Björk, oh Björk, oh Björk

Illustrating that the Brunching Shuttlecocks know the difference between Bork and Björk, one which eludes our right wing friend.

Calling Varus Right Wing is like calling a suicide bomber religious. It leave quite a bit unsaid and casts an unfair light on the rest of us.

Well except for the fact that I don't murder anyone and have this crazy idea that people should be held accountable for their actions. Something neither demcorats nor suicide bombers can relate to.

What that you're a rhino who is such a p*ssy that he'd rather make up sh*t than run the risk of offending his liberal buddies? You're right if that's what you were alluding to.

It could have been worse; I could have pronounced corpsman corpseman. Or just made fun of the handicapped.

Hear that, Moe. Metaphorically speaking, you're a large ill-tempered African mammal distinctive for its horn. Because you don't carry the party's water for them.

Makes sense, right?

Hehehehe... Ah, Varus. Always good times.

What with all this nice-nice, huggy-huggy.

Next thing, everyone will be forced to contribute equally to the forum. Asylum innovation, adventure, romance and wonder will shrivel up and die just like that worm stuck on the sidewalk when the rains stop and sun comes out.

Way to go Moe.

I've been doing some research this morning, because that's the kind of day it's been already, and I have come to the conclusion that my reputation is not nearly as deserved as some of you people like to imply. I counted a good 7 posts that were positive and encouraging. And that was just in the first 1500 or so. Extrapolated that leads to over 30 times that I have had something nice to say. There is precedent for me not being a complete d:ck, so shut the f'uck about on whom I chose to bestow my benevolence you insipid vaginal wart.

As for how this current filibuster is going... not very well.
TheHill.com wrote:
Republican senators sent signals Wednesday that they may relent in blocking a Wall Street reform bill from moving to the floor.

Several GOP senators expressed frustration about the stalled negotiations, and indicated they feel it is likely the legislation approved in a party-line vote by the Senate Banking Committee will eventually hit the floor for debate.

Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.), a member of the Banking Committee and key negotiator on financial legislation, went so far as to question why Republicans were talking about putting their own legislation together.
[...]
"I will say that probably, just based on the comment you referred to and others, at some point, there's no question, the bill will come to the floor," Corker said on CNBC. "And with the numbers that exist, who knows what type of legislation we'll end up with?"
[...]
Shelby said himself that the bill would have to come to the floor eventually, though he acknowledged that a deal on the whole bill was not yet close.

"We're going to keep talking and see what happens," he said during an appearance on MSNBC. "And sooner or later, the bill's probably going to have to come to the floor."
[...]
The American people "want us to get something done," Sen. George Voinovich (R-Ohio) told CNN on Tuesday night. He also said that the repeated votes were "counterproductive," and that he may vote for the motion to proceed if bipartisan talks are unproductive.

Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine), another senator who'd been seen as a possible defector, also said that talks can't go on forever.

It's part of the negotiation process. The GOP wants different things added or removed, and the Dems want to push the bill through as is. What "the Bill" ends out being when it hits the floor is what's being worked out right now, with both sides playing hardball. If Reid isn't careful, he may end out alienating the very folks he's trying to get on board. Every cloture vote he calls also impacts the Democrats just as much as Republicans. It's interesting that the article only focuses on the GOP "fatigue". I suspect that's going on with both parties.

The point from the GOP perspective, is that this raises awareness in the public about the issue. Given the amount of media attention, their plan is working. The only question is the degree to which public pressure affects the outcome, and what direction that pushes the issue.

The Hill reports that the GOP is backing off its filibuster and the bill is expected to move forward this week. McConnell is saying he got 'important concessions' out of the Democrats but they seem to boil down to shoring up the notion that the $50 billion fund wouldn't be tax-payer funded; something that Democrats will immediately say was never its intent anyway.

What the bill will end up being when it comes to the floor is basically the same thing as it is now.

Heh. Suspect all you want. The GOP just caved.

Edit: Politico is reporting that the bank-funded bailout pool is gone.
Politico wrote:
Senate Republicans took what they could get.

With bipartisan negotiations at an impasse and Democrats pledging to force votes until they relented, Republicans ended their standoff Wednesday over a financial regulatory reform bill, agreeing to allow a debate to begin on the politically popular measure.

Alabama Sen. Richard Shelby, the ranking Republican on the Banking Committee, walked from the negotiations after deciding that Chairman Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) would make no further concessions on the scope and powers of a new consumer protection agency.

Dodd was under pressure from the Democratic caucus to not weaken the bill in any significant way, believing that there was no need to do so. The politics of the issue were so lopsided in their favor that Republicans would eventually have to fold without much to show for it, Democrats believed.

And by late Wednesday – after three days of negative headlines and an 11-hour grilling Tuesday of Goldman Sachs executives by frustrated senators – Republicans backed down. They won a few concessions, most notably the removal of a $50 billion industry-financed fund to wind down doomed companies. But not the kind of sweeping changes that would appear to move the bill significantly in their direction.

The standoff ended with a whimper, as Republicans agreed to proceed to the bill on a voice vote, declining an opportunity to put their position on the record.
