Also the chips in HP cartridges report lower levels of ink over time, so if you never print anything, you'll still have to replace the cartridge.
They also squirt ink out every time you turn the printer on or off to "clean the nozzles." Aka... jerk more cash from your wallet.
The canon selphy is nice because it doesn't actually use "ink" it layers the color over the paper in a 3 or 4 part process idr what it's called atm needs moar coffee, which gives you a print like what you get from the Kodak booth at your local grocery/ walmart/ target/ whoever (same process). But, those only cost you ~.28 which is a bit cheaper if you were going to that store anyway for other items. This is what stopped me from buying one myself, especially since I am single atm there are no worries about those "other" kinds of pictures someone mentioned! It's all just the kids/ dog/ local flora and fauna and most of it I don't print at all, just lives in the HD.
I grabbed a brother laser (black only) a couple of years ago, inspite of being afraid of the replacement cartidge price, I print out all I ever want and still took me a year to go through the introductory cartridge that was included & much better quality than ink jet. I won't touch another ink jet, they are a scam imo.
