Congress Really Does Have Our Best Interests In MindFollow

#1 Apr 14 2010 at 9:14 AM Rating: Good
I have lambasted Congress on many occasions for moves that I have found to be harmful to the country, laws and even bills that I thought were short-sighted, at best, and hearings that I thought were a complete waste of time for the legislative body of the country at the pinnacle of the free world.

Recently, however, my mind has been pulled in a new direction, and I believe it could be changed altogether by these new hearings.

Thank you, Congress. Thank you for thinking of the children.

A friend of mine who quit smoking started using snuss instead. I told him he was going to end up with oral cancer instead of lung cancer and his defense was that "People have been using smokeless tobacco in major league baseball for years without getting cancer!" I **** you not.

And I went DURRRRRRRRRRRR BABE RUTH.

Dunno if there are any Mariners fans on here, but anyone remember the stain out in right field of the King Dome left by Jay Buhner?

Good stuff.

Ignore the steroid-using, bench clearing brawls, and insipid screaming at the umpires when things don't go your way. Tobacco is clearly the debil.

Wonder how many millions of dollars this babysitting will cost us. I mean, think how many children will be saved.

Working out of town got me hooked on BtVS reruns.

Well there's an original thought-provoking comment.

I'm not necessarily for or against banning tobacco use but it sounds like the congressman is merely trying to pressure MLB to regulate itself.

Besides, enforcing the discontinued use of chew in MLB would probably add less to the cost of your ticket than the current workers comp/med insurance bills do. In fact, lots of med insurance companies will cut the cost if you agree to things like this.

LOL@u for thinking medical-n-shoorance premium decreases would impact ticket prices. 'Cuz the Yankees pay even half of 1% of their payroll in player health insurance.

Lol @ u for merely bolstering my argument that enforcing a no chew policy isn't gonna cost Nephthy anything extra at the box office.

Hi. I'm Moe. Today's lesson will be remedial lrn2reed.

Neph was talking about the cost of the house subcommittee hearings. They're expensive. You're retarded.

Thus end-eth the lesson.

While it's hard to tell exactly what Neph is talking about, I'm willing to bet he's just throwing out the party line, prematurely, about the tax increase we are bound to see in an attempt to enforce a law forbidding pro-baseball players from using chew.

The cost of a congressional sub-committee getting together for a meeting is marginal and meaningless. If they're not talking about baseball in the spring they're talking about football in the fall.

Yeah, not that hard. Based on what I inferred, and what he confirmed, it was pretty easy to discern his nefarious meaning.

Sure. What's a couple hundred thousand dollars when we're talking about the health of t3h chilluns. How very liberal of you with my tax dollars.

I'm not sure how you come up with a couple hundred million dollars but congress people are paid whether they're talking about your kids or baseball.

I'm not sure where you came up with a couple hundred million dollars, but congress has bigger problems than the wad in Johnny Damon's mouth (yeah, intended), and if we have to pay them anyway they may as well work on something meaningful.

HA ha!

My wife watches Charmed religiously. I call it "The Booby Show" and keep telling her how much better it would be muted.
