This story has been huge news over here in NZ and, as far as I can tell from the interwebz, all over the world for a couple of days now....But it hasnt recieved even a mention here at the Arsylum.

I've noticed this pattern in the past numerous times on this board, where a big story in NZ on one day becomes a big thread in the Asylum two days later. Now i know it could be because no one is initially interested around here, but my suspicion is that the news cycle is running on a 48'ish hour delay to you guys in the US as compared to 'us'. Can that be right?

My question is... Has this story become BIG news in the US yet, and Asylum posters are ignoring it?

Or has it just not really become a 'story' yet?

Really, I'm just curious.

It just showed up on CNN today, or at least I just noticed it today.

Not sure what to make of it. It's another example of the US military making a mistake. Sad, but it happens. Just so happens that it happened with combat reporters involved as well.

Again just makes me think the sooner we get out of Iraq, the better for freaking everyone.

"Well it's their fault for bringing their kids into a battle," one of the U.S. fliers said.

I just saw this yesterday - or at least, the CNN version with the firing and subsequent carnage cut out. I'll have to track that down some time; I lurves me some Apaches.

Ya, I'd heard about it. It is a tragic crime. It is regrettable that false information was provided to journalists covering it concerning if the helicopter was fired upon prior to shooting. And now that decision to fire may well end up in a remote site within the US where soldiers fire from computer screens. I doubt this is news to anyone in Iraq that this kind of thing happened and that incidents such as this very much set back all efforts on the part of the US.

On a side note, not everything is covered here. I see no particular reason for it. Obscure entertainers deaths are posted here. Jaime Escalante's was not.
