It's probably illeetist or uhlitist of me and makes me a durty socilist or something, but I have this whacky notion that if someone is so uneducated as to be incapable of grasping the most basic rudiments of spelling, capitalization and punctuation, there's a fair to middling chance that their political opinions might not be very well-informed.

I give you Teabonics.

At first I thought it was a bad photoshop. Then I realized they likely recognized their error and attempted a fix after the fact.

That, or they originally wrote the sign in pencil and then, when going over the block letters with marker, missed that one. Still, most of the rest are worth some lulz.

Just for the record, one shouldn't use that phrase in Asylum. We are snobs here after all.

Might as well go for it. Murphy dictates that somewhere in the course of discussing this, those of us who pride ourselves on our grammar will make a horrendously ill-timed and embarrassing typo.

I disagree with the premise. Smash has taught me that someone can have the grammar and spelling of a ****** and still be pretty smart. Other factors come into play.

This.

But too, someone is out there looking for the errors. How many signs are grammatically correct?

Also, this is a grassroots movement. I give them credit for even getting the masses off the couch and making signs.

You know, that would be pretty clever. Give us educated libs some blue sharpies and we'll be distracted all day while you get your protest on.

Plus your signs will be corrected free of charge!

Looking at those pictures, I had a mix of reactions.

On one hand, I giggled at the misspellings. They are funny.

On the other hand, I felt sorry for some of those people. They probably can spell, just messed up on a sign here or there. I know I've done it before when working on a large sign, it's easy to do for some reason.

Then I felt sad at some of the opinions being expressed. The "Obama, my forefathers are from America, yours are from Kenya, that explains a lot about you" sign made me sad. Not only does that extremely white guy most likey have roots all over Europe, we used to be proud of those kinds of backgrounds.

And lastly, I felt slightly amused at the fact that most of the people, complaining about their "wealth" being taxed probably don't make more than $50,000 a year, and so really don't have to worry about the "Redistibution of wealth."

Hah! Funny...

I tend to think it's more important that the message is understandable than that it's delivered with perfect spelling and/or grammar. I know for a fact that I leave mistakes in my posts all the time. Usually, it's because my fingers type automatically and I don't notice that I wrote "your" instead of "you're" until after the fact, for example. Unless the error is particularly annoying, or might change the meaning of a sentence I wrote, I usually don't bother to correct it.

I also don't criticize others about spelling or grammar, unless it's eye-bleedingly bad, or I can't figure out what they're trying to say, or they're themselves being a grammar **** whilst making mistakes of their own (yeah! I'm looking over there at you Moe!).

Um... So does the fact that these are just normal people (bad spelling and all) make their positions less valid? Would it be better if some well funded organization wrote all their signs for them? At the risk of being obvious, this is what real "grass roots" looks like. Warts and all...
