Springfield's almost 100 miles from Boston, FYI.

While I can understand while the school can't be charged in criminal court, I have a feeling there will be a nice civil lawsuit against them that they'll lose.
Won't bring her back, but it could change how schools deal with bullying.

Good. Boston's a hole.

Not sure if the mom would go through with this. She took her other kid and moved away (understandably so), and doesn't wish to talk about it. She's pretty devastated.

Well, mom may not do anything, but now the local parents are demanding some action be taken. They went looking for the Principal (Sayer), only to be told he is out of town.

The Boston Globe wrote:
“They lied to the community,’’ said Darby O’Brien, whose stepdaughter is a senior at South Hadley High School. “They lied about how long it had gone on, and they lied that the mother had never come forward. If they had stepped in, this could have been prevented. But they failed miserably, and I don’t think you can trust them to protect the safety of the students.’’

Quote:
Many noted that Sayer told a School Committee meeting in February that it was regrettable Prince’s family didn’t report several incidents to school officials in the weeks prior to her death.

He also told the Globe in January that Prince was primarily harassed online and through text-messages. Scheibel said the harassment was primarily carried on during the school day.

Cape Cod is considered a suburb of Boston as well.

Again, it's terrible that this happened and someone should have done something, but I'm not sure how legally responsible the school would be. Even if there was a support network in place some of this harassment was happening outside of school as well. And even with all of this, some kids will still off themselves. I'm not saying this girl would be one of them (who could know for sure?), but some kids just cannot handle how cruel the world can be at a young age.

Tulip,

Stand up for yourself, sure. I guess. But that's sooo much harder to do when you're 15 years old and in high school. Actually attacking the bully would be a bad idea, I think.

In a perfect world there would be no bullies, or liberals for that matter. Unfortunately we do not. You may think i'm being overly harsh in saying that a bully should be beaten senseless and left in pool of their own blood. That's the only way they're going to learn. You can beat the crap out of someone without killing them.

And you can get a bully to back off without beating the crap out of them. It's an option and typically effective, but there are other ways that can be just as effective.

Plymouth, maybe. Woods Hole? Perhaps. Provincetown; no.

Worcester isn't a suburb of Boston, but Springfield very well cold be a suburb of Worcester.

I know, I know. Living in Boston makes me a bit biased when it comes to these things. However, I meet people outside the city who're all like, "You're from Boston? Me too!" And I ask where, find out they're from Worcester, & laugh at them.

I was bullied a lot in elementary school. When I was in 6th grade, one of the teachers did an "intervention" and lectured my entire class for 45 minutes on why bullying is a ****** thing to do, and how it can come back to haunt you if it goes too far, etc. The class was duly chastised, and I was rarely picked on after that.

The school, which apparently didn't do anything like this even knowing about the situation, is responsible.

Whatever happened to Katie?

As for the story, the troll in me wants to say is the only real crime was the waste of a relatively loose piece of jailbait.
