The elevator doors open on their floor & you can all ready smell it. Literally, half of the entire floor smells like pot. It's almost as if, recently, someone was smoking a joint in the hallway. Since the smell is everywhere, it makes it impossible to deduce the source. You walk the hall searching for a clue. At 3am, not a whole lot is going on but one room is being loud enough to warrant further investigation, under the guise of "noise complaint."
You knock on the door.
There's immediate shushing from inside when you identify yourself as "security", but the door is opened after only two knocks. The door swings open wide enough for you to see through to the other side. You observe a grinning white man in a green hooded sweatshirt with squinty, glossy eyes at the door. Behind him is a large black man, whom quickly walks out of view from your vantage point in the doorway. Seated, behind where he once stood and through the copious amounts of smoke, lingering in the room, is a man of unknown decent (he was brown skinned, i know not what kind) with crutches. There may be others in the room, but they are out of your view & don't speak to you. They are all in their late teans/early 20s.
You inform them of the complaint, the fact that they'd be charged an $175 smoking fee (Per the registration card signed at check in!), & if their were further complaints they'd be charged in full & evicted.
They offer little protest & no one at the time disputes what you witnessed.
3 hours later a 4th person, another white fellow whom the night previously you just so happened to inform where to buy rolling papers when asked while at the same time warning him of the smoking fee should he be caught smoking in the rooms, comes down & disputes what you witnessed accompanied by the man on crutches. You agree to disagree on what was witnessed & refuse to remove the smoking charge. He asks for your managers name, the corporate offices, & the GM & Regional Manager's information. You comply.
After work, you tell your girlfriend about your night. About an hour afterward, she heads to work at the same job. While there, she witnesses them talking to your manager. They deny smoking in the room &, near the end of the conversation, decide race may have been a factor in your accusations.
Unbeknown to them, they do so in front of your girlfriend, who's of full Japanese decent.
Your manager, during the conversation with this 4th man & the guy on crutches, was actually thinking about being nice & not charging them until they played the race card. After talking with your girlfriend, he says that he'll talk to you again in the morning & decide.
You effectively have them by the balls, having great influence on whether or not they pay this $175 smoking fee. You could be nice & do so, as $175 is a lot of money for you & most likely, a lot for these 4 20 somethings in town for a gaming expo (PAX East is in town). Yet in their "quest" to get out of an $175 smoking fee, they've called you a liar & a racist in front of your girlfriend.
What Do you Do?
Charge them. Karma's a *****.: | 36 (90.0%)
Offer them mercy. They're just kids.: | 0 (0.0%)
Other. : | 4 (10.0%) | |
Total: | 40 |
Explain "Other" in detail, as "others" could weigh heavier on the final decision than the first two options, provided there will be lulz.
