I know some of you have done your education via online vs. in-class. My last 2 degrees, I was able to do online by choice. I could have physically attended the classes since the college was quite close, but chose to do it that way for convenience. But there was still interaction with the instructor and other students since we went in for discussions at time.

Now I'm contemplating (once again) to go back for my Master's Degree. I can actually get a Master of Science in Law from Champlain College in Burlington, VT. 2.5 year online program with a 3-day residency portion. This is an alternative to law school. I really don't want to be a lawyer but I really want to enhance my legal career.

So, for those that have done the online route, what was your experience? Did you find it worthwhile or wish that you physically went to class?

I just did a paralegal course through one of the local universities, but it was all online. They gave me six months, and I worked at my own pace. I imagine something like what you've got will be more structured, but I found it quite nice. I did a chapter a week and was able to get done before the deadline, and any time I had a question or needed clarification on a point, I had an "instructor" I could email and she usually got back with me within 24 hours.

I'm thinking about trying for another degree the same way, but I want to make sure that my diploma will be from a reputable school. I don't imagine "Phoenix Online" would look as good on a resume....

I've thought of this before. I would like to go back and take a few classes but would want to do it online. The issue like Belkira said, is finding one that is reputable and looks good on a resume.

Good luck. It will take a couple more years until people from National, Phoenix, etc can penetrate the market a bit and remove the "you bought your degree" stigma.

Yeah, if you're worried about it, it's still a few years out unless you can find a brick and mortar that will let you take your classes online. My kid sister is doing that through a local university that only makes her attend 1 day a month.

The university I'm looking at is based in Burlington, Vermont, and was established back in the 1800s, which made me really surprised to find out that they actually had this online option (you do have to attend a residential program for a few days). And for what it's worth, it has been ranked as a Tier 1 college by "those" news organizations (US News & World Reports).

Go to law school. MS in law is completely useless. Get a JD and don't sit for the bar if you really don't want to be a lawyer. Alternately, you could get an MBA or some other degree that's not completely valueless.

I'm going up to Burlington, VT this weekend. Nice people, decent skiing (for the East Coast), & good weed there.

I actually did better on my online class than I did during my traditional classes. I guess it's the forum format, and work at your own pace deal.

That said, the master's degree I applied for is traditional, not online. I wish it was online. It's a 50 minute commute each way to the campus it's on . . .

I did an elective online because the one they offered at my university didn't mesh with my schedule. It went all right, but I would highly recommend only taking one class at first, so you can get used to the system, how they mark, how they give you support etc. I don't think I'd get any sort of degree at an online college, but taking a few courses can be convenient, just make sure they'll transfer easily.
