Our huge tax refunds from Ray's days in the Navy are over. Only getting $2741 federal but owe $776 to California. Ray's not happy about that. But I told him at least we can pay the California one when the federal refund comes through in 2 weeks.

Rest going to pay down some debt and put new tires on Ray's car.

Anyone actually getting to do anything fun with their refund?

I had to pay $500 for Federal and am getting back $435 from State so it's pretty much a wash for me.

Ray and I used to average about $6000 a year in refunds when he was in the military. We lived in military housing and had a lot of disposal income. Now with a mortgage..... Smiley: frown Not so much.

For the first time ever, I will not be receiving a refund from either the Federal or Illinois governments.

Getting a little over a thousand back. Using it to pay off some credit card debt. Though I did briefly consider hookers and blow as a reasonable alternative.

I'll be getting ~1300 back. I'll probably just throw it on the pile.

Put me down for toss it on the pile, as well. I can spend it whenever I like, so it's not much of a treat.

Maybe I'll sack up and give it to charity.

We're not sure what we're getting back yet, but will probably pay down some debt and maybe upgrade some stuff around the house. If things work out, we could even use some of it for the refi we need to do.

Getting back almost (or just over? My wife does the numbers) five grand total 9the state hasn't come through yet). I've already done some upgrading on my desktop, and since Thom just poured a bottle of milk in my wife's laptop...well, it was getting old and grody anyways.

No state income tax where I live, so federal only. I'll be getting back around 400 dollars, which will promptly go into the bank, maybe into a CD or something.

CDs are not paying out enough to bother with at the moment, unless you have access to a deal I can't find.

May as well put it in a money market account, really.

$4900 back from the government, which I used $600 of to buy my wife a laptop, $3000 went to tuition bills for the classes she's deficient to enter the CLS program at UNMC in May, the rest is being saved for when she starts said program and goes from 40 hours a week to 15 hours a week. Still need to find a new baby sitter, Kindercare is no longer affordable... Smiley: frown

We did our taxes awhile ago. Got about 3k back. It's already been put places, with a bit held back for the upcoming mini-vacation.

I sat down with my son last night, filled out my census form while he did his taxes. He pretty much broke even which was a big disappointment to him as last year he got a couple hundred back.

Anyway, I got my census mailed off:)

Yeah, I break just about even except when there's an unexpected tax break or credit.

Or pay precisely the correct amount of taxes. Or none.

Not if you can get them counted as losses so you can collect net more in term subsidy negotiations.

True, but $150-200/payday gets spent wastefully. A one time cheque of $3600-4000 gets used well.

Getting over $9000 because of the first time home buyer tax credit.

This is going to:

- Pay off a medical bill (hubby still owes 1K to a hospital in Durham, NC)
- Get some critical landscaping done (namely, a retaining wall in the backyard)
- Get us an automatic garage door opener
- Get our carpets stretched
- Pay off some of the $6000 appliances bill (the rest can be paid off in time)
- Pay back my husband's aunt Faye, who loaned us $2000 last Jan to help us meet the 2 month reserve for the mortgage
- Cover the cost of the plane tickets to San Fran

The list we had was labeled "Obama Magical Funland Money" just to rub it in Moe, gbaji, and Virus' respective faces.
