Seriously need a policy, and soon.

As long as you're going to start making a habit of adding insightful commentary with your story links, I think you'll do fine.

Yeah, the Chinese are not the only ones guilty of overusing antibiotics.

They're a pretty convenient target, though

I think they're too busy with the ethnic cleansing.

You don't think that's what they're using the antibiotics for, do you?

You can't be too picky about the cleanliness of your ethnicities.

The article seems generally correct and there actually is a degree of official concern, particularly about antibiotics in the food supply. Earlier generation antibiotics are effectively OTC and many doctors are quick to use a regimen of antibiotics in an IV drip.

Ethnic cleansing? Bun-Bun is a minority, youngest quasi-adoptive daughter is a minority, walking across a bridge is nearly impossible because of all the blanket merchants selling ethnic kitsch, there are numerous restaurants run by and catering to various minorities (particularly the Muslim ones) and minority students are common in the universities (they get bonus points on the admissions test). Granted, some of the blanket merchants probably could use a good bath.

Overuse of antibiotics is pretty much across the board. Look at how many soaps in the US include AB agents. And they do nothing--the soap+water was more than enough to get it clean. You are just breeding stronger bacteria.

This is exactly why I refuse to get the annual flu shot.

This is because people are dumb enough to equate harmless bacteria with salmonella.

Well, obviously. The difference is when you walk into any clinic in North America they need to confirm that you have a bacterial infection before they prescribe antibiotics. Next time you're in a doctors office look around you and you will notice three or four posters about antibiotic awareness/policy. In China, you walk into any clinic with the common cold symptons and they give you three weeks worth of amoxacilin.

No they don't. They'll give you antibiotics pretty quickly.

Pretty much false on the NA part. They'll give it to you for suspicion of an infection, or if they think you have a high chance of becoming infected.

For example, if you have open sores they may prescribe one (seriously, don't take it. Wash with salt water and just use a cream on the wound if you are worried. Keep bandaged and don't jump in filthy water). You have a chance for infection, and it is WAY safer for them to do it (when you don't need it) than to chance you suing them for malpractice because it does get infected (after you soaked in the local lake) and they didn't take preventive measures.

Having worked in health care I can tell you this is not so. All you have to do is persist.

Yeah, pretty much. Overworked doctors who don't have time to argue will write a script just to get rid of you. It's pretty sad.

My favorite doctor visit I always had?

I had been having headaches (not AWFUL headaches, but I got them several times a week and they were painful enough to be distracting). I went to the doctor for a physical and asked about them.

His response? To prescribe me a NARCOTIC. I was FIFTEEN. They were probably TENSION HEADACHES.

Yeah, thanks doc. That's one prescription I didn't fill.
