Because there are so many different views across the political/anthropological/socio scale here, I was interested in hearing some of your thoughts after watching this video. In the name of tolerance, has the system raised entire generations of people that can not or will not integrate into societal norms? Is it incumbent upon all humans to be responsible for their own actions and behavior despite the adults as well as teens that supervise and advise or guide them have clearly failed? Am I clearly too judgmental and my adherence to societal normatives the real problem and this is just totally okay?

Interested in hearing what the Asylum can come up with on this.

You're just jealous that those little kids are getting more play than you.

Also, it doesn't appear to be any school setting, and the age spread is too large to be a class dance. Seems pretty obviously a staged event. Why bother making social commentary about how loose kids are these days based on staged videos?

My point being that they staged this in a private setting as a joke. That it's not really something socially acceptable amongst children with adults chaperoning a dance.

I'm guessing it's a birthday party.

The little kids are imitating what they see on TV. This is why TV is The Great Evil and no child should be exposed to cable television before the age of 18.

(This is only half-snark. I'm pretty anti-television.)

I've seen that video before, and it's still terrible. What's worse is that a lot of people don't seem to see any problem with it. Is it really a good idea to be encouraging children to do this? *******, terrible.

Wow, I can't remember the last time I saw a post from Lefein...

I think it's a birthday party for the little girl with the tiara and instead of pink the tail on the burro they've decided to have a dance contest as a party game.

I don't know what to think about it honestly.

Part of me thinks it's inappropriate actions for a child to engage in and the teens/adults that were in the video should have stopped it.

Part of me thinks these kids have no idea what they are doing and just copying what they see. I used to play cops and robbers and pretend to shoot guns at my friends. I had no idea what I was doing but I ended up making it to adulthood without ever shooting/robbing anyone.

This is called "perreo" and it's the standard humplike dance for reggeaton. I'm guessing this video is from a house birthday party in the D.R., from the accent.

On the one hand, I remember dancing salsa and merengue with my cousins and it being no big deal (adults would laugh at us acting all grown and point out how we were doing), so I tend to think that they taped it as a joke. At one point the woman getting the kids to dance yells "Get the cops, get the firefighters".

On the other hand, I remember dance contests being a big thing, entertainment-wise at parties and you would just do the latest dance. I've seen kids dance a convincing tango that made me feel icky, so I think it's a definite possibility these kids just know that this is how you dance to that kind of music and catch on pretty quickly to what that means. That one older couple in the back of the room kissed at one point, I'm pretty sure. When the camera pans back on them, the girl is helping the guy wipe his lips.

I'm not a sociologist, but I'd tend to think the more humble the community, the earlier they'll be knocking boots. I once met a guy from Ghana who told me he got some at 5, and I know a guy from Mexico that lost it at 9.

If Flea's right and they're in the Dominican Republic it'll be that government's cheese, so try to relax.
