The last trick on the run, at the 2:05 mark, is absolutely INSANE. I cringe to think what happens if you over- or under-rotate.

yeah, that run was sweet. Nothing like relaxing because you've already won and just doing a massive jump. Awesome.

I watched this last night on NBC...

The crazy thing was that he didn't have to do it. He had the gold locked up before he ever took his second run (he went last out of the field) from his score on the first run. He didn't even do the "Double Mc" (what he called it) on the first run.

The second run was purely to have fun and to give the fans a good show. Very impressive stuff, and he's only 23...so no telling how far he'll be going.

Tony Hawk was at the event. I watched him being interviewed. Apparently he and Shaun are fellow trick-builders. I couldn't help but wonder if Tony, and his skate-boarding compatriots don't feel a bit slighted about not being included in the Olympics. Clearly, half-pipe boarding whether gliding on snow or wheels is a very similar discipline.

What else I want to know; Is the Peter Frampton look making a comeback?

Also, this guy has built an experimental snowboard lab that includes a huge foam tank to drop into - who do you supposed financed it?

Can these athletes really be called amateur anymore?

I think I've been enjoying the short-track speed-skaters this year more than anything, thought the womans down hill event last night was pretty good. Man they go fast.

Or NBA players for the summer games basketball?

The IOC nixed the YouTube link. I assume (by the Carrottop reference) that's Sean White?

It appears many of you are unaware that The Flying Tomato is a Pro Skateboarder too. He's quite good, actually. In fact, he's the only person to attempt a 1080 on a board, but he hasn't landed it in competition.

Apparently having your own personal half-pipe with 7000 foam blocks to land in has its advantages.

I wish I had learned to snowboard before I had developed basic self-preservation instincts like not wanting my feet to be above my head while airborne.

Olympic regulations regarding amateur status were abandoned in the '90s (except for boxing which still requires all of the participants to be amateur).
