Seems to me some of you people would be getting on him for expecting special treatment, but then liberals aren't much for consistency.

Seems to me some people have been; but accepting that not every liberal is in lockstep with every other liberal blah blah blah.

Hrm? Several people said "Yeah, what'd he expect?" and no one actually said he deserved special treatment. The topic at large just sort of shifted to "Wow, coach seats sure do suck, huh?" probably because no one was going to drive the conversation by arguing a pro-Smith stance.

Edit: Kakar said he could see where Smith was coming from and Belkira implied that Smith is a groovy dude. No real strong arguments for it, though.

Well... I did. But like I said, that's only because I think Kevin Smith is cool as hell, and I wouldn't necessarily argue the same for just any other famous lard ***.

Edit: Damn you and your ninja edits, Joph!

Why? Do planes run on magic pixie dust that flows free from the heavens? The frequency with which the idea that others should provide expensive things for you at a low price because you believe you're entitled to comfort and joy and all that is getting ridiculous.

What absolute arrogance to assume that you are a special snowflake who deserves to get special treatment at others expense.

By all means. Buy your own damn plane if you think it's so unfair.

I didn't state it outright at the beginning, but I do find it odd that he is essentially getting upset not over the weight policy (which he complies with routinely), but the standby policy, and yet he rails about his weight as if that were the primary issue.

Why?

Why be reasonable?

Good question.

Way to take one portion of what I said and respond to it. You ******* moran. I can do that too. Show me where I've stated before that others should provide me expensive things at a low price because I'm entitled. Apparently I do it so frequently.

If gbaji was a troll he'd be a work of art.

I don't really agree with the whole "coach can be as uncomfortable and **** as the airline want to make it, and if you disagree just buy first class". First class prices are ridiculously expensive. The average can't afford a first-class ticket abraod, let alonse sligtly poor people. Most people are forced to buy coach, because first class prices the vast majority of people our of it. It's not like the choice between buying a 26' or a 32' TV, it's a choice between buying a tiny TV the size of an Ipod which will make you blind by the time you're 50, or buying a gigantic LED 42' screen that costs $2500. With nothing in between.

I personally think there should be some minimum standard of comfort, analysed and accredited by scientists with no vested interets either way, and adapted for the anatomical proportions of modern man, which should be imposed on airline coach class. This would include the size of passenger seats, the space between seats, and possibly the thickness of the back support and cushion. Standard health and safety stuff, really.

Really? You're pissed because I quoted just the section of your post relevant to my response? Um...

Huh? Apparently I failed to trim my quote of you down enough. Sigh...

Newsflash. Flying is "expensive". Planes are "expensive". When you demand to be provided a comfortable seat on said expensive plane at a price you can afford you are demanding that "others should provide me expensive things at a low price".

What part of that is confusing to you?

It's not the frequency so much as the apparent inability to recognize that this is what you are really saying. You're not the only one, though. A whole hell of a lot of people make statements like yours without a clue that they are effectively demanding that others provide them with things based solely on how convenient it is for them to receive it, and with no apparent thought as to how much it costs the other guy to provide it.
