We never did go over the top. We'd usually celebrate by going out for dinner and not exchanging gifts. Our son is a Valentine's baby so now it's all about his birthday more than anything else.
What's bred in the bone will not out of the flesh.
5 years and we are down to cards only. Plus humping. Baby making is fun.
We won't do anything. Maybe cards, maybe not. I bet he'll forget anyway. Also, we both have to work.

I feel it's for couples. Some of my friends celebrate it for love in general, but I really think of it as a couples only holiday. As I am currently part of a pair, I won't be celebrating most likely :D

I am not a fan of those "mandatory" hoidays. Christmas, New Year and Valentines all feel cheap to me. I would rather someone spent some time, and less money surprising me with a present or flowers at a completely random time of the year. Surprise me!
My best 'Valentines' treat was in January when an ex surprised me with a lovely romantic dinner and night out, "just because"
I am not a fan of those "mandatory" hoidays. Christmas, New Year and Valentines all feel cheap to me. I would rather someone spent some time, and less money surprising me with a present or flowers at a completely random time of the year. Surprise me!

Just so you know, that sort of naive idealism with a dash of anti-conformity for anti-conformity's sake is only cute until you hit puberty. Once the fuzz sprouts it's time to grow up.
This thread reminds me that Joph Jr never requested the traditional box of Transformers/Harry Potter/Pokemon themed Valentine's Day cards this year. Maybe his class isn't doing that for the 5th grade.

Xavier specifically asked me for foil Revenge of the Fallen Transformer cards for his classmates. And if they didnt have those, Transformers. And if they didnt have those wold I please look for Star Wars Clone Wars. I liked how his school is asking for no candy but theyre doing a mini class celebration and asked each table to bring in specific types of snacks. Xavier is bringing in grapes.I wasnt going to do anything for Ashes preschool but I got an email last week saying some parents were asking about it and it was optional. So we decided to try and make Chocolate Vday frog and lady bug lollipops. Ashe decided to also get Transformer cards and tape them to the lollipop bags.
I'm going to tell my SO that I've shaved a heart for her somewhere, but won't tell her where.

V-day been about love for someone special in your life. I used to make sure I gave my girls cards when they were young, as well as a card for my spouse.
Now it's about wondering if Jonwin will remember to get me a different card then the year before and a bag of dark chocolate candy.
I try to remember to get him a card before hand, but then some years i just don't get out of the house enough to buy one. He gets snuggles and of course there is extra special effort to make our love making last until we both pass out, happily satisfied with the love we share.
My 4 year old grand daughter spend the other day trying to cut out hearts. She says she has the V part down, but can't get the hump right. Any plans her pre-k class may have had is canceled due to fact that they won't be back in school until Tuesday at the earliest. That is as long as Monday's storm stays as the wimpy storm currently forecasting.

Couples, I suppose. I've never given it very much thought since I plan my runs of single-hood between Christmas and Valentine's Day.
