However, it does have a lot to do with a general "Someone Else's Problem" idea, which does seem to be a prevalent theme among the Left. Toss in a bit of political correctness and fear of lawsuits in the case the security guys happen to be white, and there's a much better point to be made.

I don't think rent-a-cops really have any more police powers than your average citizen (I usually ignore them, anyway), so for them to call the police doesn't surprise me.
