So because we consider Obama to be smarter than Palin.. we should laugh at her having a couple words scribbled on her hand, but yell at anyone who criticizes Obama for his constant usage of a teleprompter?
I don't think they really compare much at all. Which isn't to say one is worse (or better) than the other but just as you say "A couple of words scribbled on her hand", one could easily say "Why can't she even remember three basic talking points that she supposedly bases her political ideology on?"
The whole teleprompter thing is stupid as well. Obama went without a teleprompter and more than held his own against the GOP House Republicans for 90 minutes, even after they said "Ok, we can stop now..." and Fox News cut away from the event to start spinning damage control. Palin used a teleprompter at the Republican Convention and had her devotees swearing that it broke and she really did her speech all by memory despite multiple reports (including anyone watching it who could catch views of it from time to time) that it was working fine. They just wanted to say Palin wasn't
really like Obama in "Oh noes! Teleprompter!". I'm sure she's used them since -- they're used
all the time.
There's an obvious good reason to use a teleprompter when giving a speech; it lets you look out at the audience (rather than at notecards) and make sure you're saying what you meant to say instead of getting sidetracked. I suppose the main reason for crib notes on your hand is because you've spent a year mocking teleprompters and now need the help but God forbid you use the commonplace tool you spent a year laughing at. The humor isn't even in her needing help remembering stuff but that she backed herself out of using something used all the time because she needs the talking point against the President.
