I'll miss Tobey, who I think did a fantastic job, but I'm thinking James McAvoy, or new geek cutie Joseph Gordon-Leavitt. Thoughts?

Shia LaBeouf

Hahaha, just kidding. Joseph Gordon-Levitt might work for others, but whenever I see him I always think of him in his 3rd Rock From The Sun role.

JGL or McAvoy might be ok...we need someone fairly geeky though. What about Michael Cera?

I know this may be strange, but what about Daniel Radcliffe?

I think he'd be really good for the role, but I almost think it being him would be too distracting.

JG-L would be my choice. He's geeky enough, and he's turning out to be a good actor.

In fact it might be a step down in terms of acting (but obviously a high profile role can be a career boost).

Who was the villain that looked like a vulture? That would be a good part for him.

Unless Spidey's secret identity is now Michael Cera, because that's all Michael Cera can play.

You think Tobey McGuire really owned that role? He seemed like Toby McGuire in a spiderman suit to me. Maybe I just have low expectations.

Yep he was really true to the character as depicted in the comics- on the small side, kid-faced, socially awkward and intense. He's getting too old for it, though, especially since the next movie is supposed to take place in high school.

I'll admit that I never read the comic.

I think my next comic/graphic novel will be Watchmen. It seems wrong to me that I haven't read it yet.

James McAvoy really surprised me with a stellar performance in the otherwise routine action "Wanted". Without any costume change, just a different set of expressions and physical motions, he went from profoundly self-doubtful geek to self-confidant man-of-action.

I was never too familiar with McGuire pre-Spider-Man so I didn't have a disconnect there.

Michael Cera, on the other hand, plays George Michael Bluth in every role and I've little interest in seeing George Michael Bluth in a Spider-Man costume.

I didn't catch that one. I was still too broken hearted from Atonement to watch him in anything else. I do still laugh seeing him in the Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe though when Hannah watches it.

I don't know who half these people are. I don't watch too many movies.

But on that note, I really need to see some MST3K. It's been too long.

It's good? I've never really felt all that compelled to read the "traditional" superhero comics. I like X-men, I loved Sandman, I'm relatively certain I'll love Watchmen. Based on that, what would you suggest?

Spiderman, Batman and X-Men were the constants in my childhood, retcons notwithstanding. I enjoyed them immensely.
Spiderman was my dream guy: funny, geeky, responsible. He's especially funny when they team him up with Wolverine, or Kraven's Last Hunt for his more serious, brainy side.
Bruce Wayne's my Heathcliff. My personal favorite Batman graphic novels are Red Rain & Arkham Asylum, because they show how insane he really is. Look into the abyss and all that.
Marvel makes "Essential" volumes and both Marvel and DC publish paperbacks.

How bout Jessie Eisenberg, the guy that played Columbus in Zombieland?

I recommend the author/illustrator Shirow Masamune.

Orion,
Appleseed (four parter)
Ghost In the Shell
Dominion - "Tank Police"

He's kind of an omnivore's delight. He likes mythology and philosophy, but he likes to get there via lots of action, futuristic military hardware, prurient sexy robots and genetically modified creatures, wry, ironic humour, and inserts of slapstick humour.

PS, ignore any films or TV shows made out of his mangas. The originals are much better.

At first glance he seems like another Cera but he did impress me in Zombieland and Adventureland. I just couldn't see him action heroing it up.

Unfortunately, I think James Franco would be pretty good.
