A apparently went voluntarily as a protest about B being laid off. Katie was indignant, and talked to the admins behind the scenes. C told her some things off the record, which Katie put ON the record, publicly posting it, and she continued to protest vocally in the forums about it all, insulting the site owners.
I was confused a while as to whether she'd actually been banned, or if she was staying away out of hurt feelings, because all this was the last straw for a lot of people who were fed up with her. Maybe a dozen people had permanently put "BAN KATIE" in their sigs, although most of them were taken aback when she actually was banned. Some jokes went around about who to put next in their sigs as "Ban -".
Some Katie gossip before all this happened with A and B: There was a round of new admin recruiting, and Katie wanted to be an admin. It quickly became clear that only people who could show some restraint would be chosen, and Katie realised that perhaps she was hamstrung in that by her posting persona. So to prove her determination, and to demonstrate what she was really like as a real life person, and not a forum troll, she asked the admins to change her name and strip her postcount, so she could start over as a new poster.
However, some other posters quickly became surprised and disgusted that the "new" "real life" Katie was often not any different from "forum troll" "pretend persona" Katie. Katie had a lot of sore spots, and when those subjects came up, she'd get angry and go in for the vicious verbal kill against other posters, in a way that was over-the-top insulting, if it wasn't "just" a trolling. These sore spots weren't even things directed at her, and people didn't pick on her first in the arguments, but just general sociocultural ideas that she held strong opinions on, and would pour out tirades on at the drop of a hat, insulting other people for their beliefs or actions or inactions. I have a suspicion this lost Katie a lot of respect in many other poster's eyes, and they were less tolerant of her; much more likely to view her as "sad" rather than "funny". It was all fun and giggles when she was a troll. Having her avowed promise that she would behave in her new posting account in the same way that she would behave at work gave other people a nasty mental image of her as a possible coworker.
The Katie implosion was a shame, because she'd garnered a lot of people's well-wishes and respect earlier by taking her grandfather, who had molested her many times as a child, to court, in the face of her own fear and almost total family opposition.
A lot of this happened in OOT. Katie was spending a lot of time over there, along with other Asylumnites.
Edited like that? I kind of didn't think any of this was private any more, as it all got played out very publicly in the OOT, albeit several months ago. For example she herself started several threads about her pre-court and court dramas, and her personal family issues.
