Good thing I'm not a Democrat then. How far up the *** of the Republicans do you need to be to get upset over such a trivial thing?

What is that even supposed to mean? They're afraid Rahm Emanuel is going to come and cut off their thumbs? Well then who cares what they think of Obama's bowing if they're all too terrified of "Chicago style politics" to even speak of it?

Varus, you're confusing bowing with prostration. Bowing is a sign of respect, often mutual. It's a more formal form of greeting, to be sure, but it's not really a sign of subservience. Often bows are shared, rather than one person simply bowing to the other.

It's okay, though since many forms of media use the word bow when they mean the other, so I can see how you'd get confused.

Seriously though, you're starting to irritate me, and I'm not all that fond of Obama myself.

Not in Tampa.

I seem to have missed the photos of Obama on his knees, praying to others.

No i'm not.

Obama's constant bowing is a sign of weakness. He's supposed to be the leader of the free world. A simple hand shake or a head nod would suffice. This bowing has become a habit and everytime he does it to someone who's not oriental or arabian i'm going to post on it.

Let me rephrase. You're confusing the meaning between the two gestures.

Do what you will, but all you're accomplishing is looking like an idiot and making the rest of us who happen to lean Republican look bad in the process.

Actually I think Obama's the one who looks like an idiot going around bowing to everyone he meets. And I really could care less what other republicans think. Want to know why? Because i'm and individual who doesn't need the affirmation of others.

It means what it says. Break with the habit of a lifetime and think about what you're saying.

Locked,

So saying arabian and oriental cultures bow as tradition is racist?

Nope, "arabian" (I think you mean Arabic) and "Oriental" (I think you mean Asian as an overall term, or Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indian, etc for individual countries) are culturally incorrect terms tinged with derision based upon race; you know, racist terms. It's like calling black people "Negros." Welcome to the last few decades, Varus. We haven't been missing you!

Edit: On a completely off-topic subject, it blew my mind a couple months ago when I realized that Indians are Asians. I mean it's a total "DUH!" moment, but my mental image of "Asian" is completely separate from "Indian." I suppose we all have our own little fixed mindsets from which we really need to break out.

I never said you did. I'm just saying that when I feel the need to make an argument regarding something that actually matters, it's gonna be really hard to get taken seriously when everyone is lumping all Republicans in with your inanity.

We were talking about Napoleon and I mentioned how he broke the cardinal rule: "Never get involved in a land war in Asia." Which led to the sub-discussion about Russia being part of Asia (geographically if not culturally).

To be fair, India is considered a "sub-continent" isolated from the rest of Asia by the Himalayas. Kind of like how western California is isolated from the rest of the rational world by the Sierra Nevadas.
