The story

Quote:
A group of 10 American Baptists were being held in Port-au-Prince today after trying to take 33 children out of Haiti.

The church group, most of them from Idaho, allegedly lacked the proper documents when they were arrested on Friday night in a bus along with children aged from two months to 12 years who had survived the earthquake.

The group said they were setting up an orphanage across the border in the Dominican Republic.

"In this chaos the government is in right now we were just trying to do the right thing," the group's spokeswoman, Laura Silsby, said at the judicial police headquarters in Port-au-Prince, where the Americans were being held pending a hearing tomorrow before a judge

An interesting news article that I noticed today. Not sure what to think, I'll await developments.

You might fix the spelling in the thread title in the mean time.

Silsby, 40, of Boise, Idaho, was asked if she thought it was naive to cross the border without adoption papers at a time when Haitians are so concerned about child trafficking. "By no means are we any part of that. That's exactly what we are trying to combat," she said. She said she had not been following news reports while in Haiti.

If in fact, they're just do-gooders, then yeah, that's pretty f'n naive. I'm not convinced, though. Why would you try to export children without going through the proper processes first? It sounds quite fishy.

Children are worth 10k a pop on the adoption market apparently. So there is a motive if they were not honest in their intentions.

Yeah there was an implied "if you're just trying to do good" at the end of that question.

Another article.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8490515.stm

Seems the orphanage is saying that not all of them were orphans, and at least one child thought she was just being brought to a boarding school or summer camp (and says she has parents).

At least there *is* an orphanage. Reports have been coming out of predators of all types picking up stray kids.

Scumbag cultist child stealers.

How much research can they have possibly done in the past week or so to find living relatives, when the place is in such a bloody mess?

Theres no way on Earth that they can have efficiently confirmed that those children were orphaned while there is so much chaos in Port au Prince.

Predators dressed up as do-gooders imo.
