No that wasn't that or we wouldn't be listening to the homosexual community forcing the issue.

So I take it you are for communal showers where men and women have to shower together and if a man happens to get aroused then that's ok because they shouldn't have to hide themselves. Gotcha.

Um...you DO realize that they have been showering together all along, right? If a gay man were going to get a raging ***** at the sight of any other guy in the shower, the game would pretty much be up already.

I suspect it's because they're lame ******* who have so little self-control that they pop wood every time they see someone of the sex to whom they are attracted, and they're projecting that tendency upon the rest of male-kind.

I never said I didn't see a gay couple at a bar. I said I rarely see gay couples and when you do, it's obvious because everyone is looking. Well a gay soldier is probably committing acts that aren't legal by the UCMJ. It's not enforced much, but **** sex is against the regs. That pertains to both hetero and **** **** intercourse.
Everyone is looking? I live in Texas and even here, for the most part I notice nobody (or very few people) giving a damn. Do you live in some redneck sh*thole or something?

It really seems to me that he's just an asshole who wants to pretend that everyone is gawking at the ****** so he can feel better about himself when he does it.

I mean, shit, he won't even let his gay friends (Yes, he has gay friends, so he's not a bigot... right?) talk about their significant others because it makes him feel all icky.

ETA: By the way, you asked if I was "gay, too." Didn't you know that Allakhazam was the "Gay Gaming fourm?" Everyone here is gay. Except Varrus and gbaji.

Jophiel and Atomicflea even met here, they're lesbians who are now living a happy life together. (Flea is the butch one, obviously.)

My personal opinion is you should buckle those big boy pants of yours and learn to live with it. In other words, fucking deal.

The only thing that you have managed to successfully illustrate is the fact that a change in policy is worth precious little without the support and understanding of the community involved. I can't believe you trust your brothers in arms to save your life, but you don't trust them not to stick it in your *** when your bend over to pick up your soap?

There's a disconnect there, pal, and I'll bet this isn't the only place in your life it shows up. You might want to get that looked at.

That's your opinion, doesn't mean you're right though. Nobody should have to be harassed and that goes for both sides. The only thing repealing DADT will do is cause more problems for gay service members in the form of harassment and complaints from straight people. Sure some people will accept it, but many won't especially in infantry units. I'll admit it's not fair that gay soldiers can't publicly embrace their loved ones under DADT, but I'll think you'll find that most gays will continue to keep their relationships a secret because of potential problems.

I've tried to be impartial and see both sides of the argument. It's clear to me that everyone advocating repealing the DADT policy has no experience dealing with gays in the military. This is not the civilian sector people. It doesn't really matter what I say someone will turn it around and blow it out of context. I was considering having a couple of my gay friends post here, but why bother, I have no interest in debating this topic any longer.

I'll conclude my contribution to the thread with this. Gay or straight, sexual abuse and harassment will continue to happen. Repealing DADT isn't the answer so I'm not sure what else to say. Maybe another compromise will come out of all this.

peace^^

People will get over it, and in a military setting were everyone bonding is psychologically forced on people it will happen faster than anywhere else. They got over blacks serving. They got over women serving. They'll get over gays serving.

It's part of the solution. As long as we have laws that support the bigoted view that there is something wrong, unnatural, shameful, or secretive about homosexuality then the fears of the ignorant are reinforced.

I suppose you can't or don't want to see the inevitable outcome of the entire situation. Comprises will occur, but they aren't a stopping point, just a a step toward progress that is begrudgingly accepted until full equality and protection is ultimately achieved.

Full rights and legal acceptance for homosexuals is an unavoidable final outcome. Everything the religious right and other civil rights detractors are doing is a stall. It may not seem obvious to your or them, but that is the situation. Nothing they do can change homosexuals being eventually granted full marriage rights or prevent DADT from being fully repealed. All that they are doing is delaying. They can't stop, but they can slow down. Within 30 year certainly, the largest parts will be over.

You're on the wrong side of history Shadowedge.

That's why there are rules and policies against sexual harassment in the workplace, and consequences for their violation. It doesn't mean that I, a hetero woman, or you, a hetero male, get to anticipate their violation and act as if it's occurred simply because our equipment fits the bill. If someone is repeatedly making comments/overtures at you that are unwelcome and make it difficult to work, then you have a problem, and those are looked at on a case-by-case basis, just like the hetero harassment claims. Look at who thinks a fucking ***** makes him special. Chauvinist.

Quote:

They get harassed anyway by ignorant fucks right now. A repeal won't magically confer understanding upon these people. At least then it will come with the requisite policies for pursuing punishment to the extent the law allows. What do they get now? Not only do they get harassed, but they get to lose their job because they were outed. That's fucking strong policy right there. Oh wait, no. It isn't. It sucks balls and if it were you, you'd feel the impotence of you daily and it would drive you insane.

This is convenient. People have listened to your point of view, but you have yet to clarify what the "decency issue" you're advocating actually consists of, other than your personal ooginess. If you do bring your friends by, please make sure they're not in the military or they would have your intolerant *** to thank for the loss of their livelihood.

True. Would you a tie a woman's hands and make it so that she doesn't have a recourse, legal or ethical, through which to defend herself?

While this is likely true, and I am sure most gay people will continue to be somewhat discreet, at least the homophobia will not be institutional. This is a single step in the right direction.

Can anyone seriously tell me they aren't grossed out by hearing about someone's sexual life.
I'm not, it's not like it's some unholy dark ritual (in most cases). And besides, this isn't what this law is about. It's about forcing people to hide their orientation, not whether they can talk about their sexual exploits.

Shadow Edge wrote:
The homosexual lifestyle is just like that. It's something people don't want to see. They typically don't care if you do it, they just rather not know about it.
I'm sure they are just as grossed out by your love of ******. Again, this isn't a law preventing people from talking about their sexual exploits.

Shadow Edge wrote:
So explain why it's wrong for straight males and females to shower together, but it's ok for a gay male to shower with straight guys. I'm in agreement about treating ALL people decently, but I can't seem to answer my own question. Is it right for sexes that are attracted to each other to share common areas including shower facilities?
Personally, I don't think it's wrong to have people showering with people of compatible orientations, but understand that it can be uncomfortable for some. I would prefer a system where that restriction is removed, however if someone wasn't comfortable showering with another, regardless of gender, they could segment those groups. I also understand that some economical and logistical concessions need to be made on this front, but if possible, that should be the goal.

This is a bad idea for the US military right now, and while it'll be a political victory, the end result is going to be dead gay men. Long term I'm sure it'll have almost no impact, but the time to do this ISN'T when you're involved in multiple large scale counter insurgency conflicts.
I respectfully disagree, if handled correctly (Yeah, I know, military) it could be done cleanly.

The showering thing is asinine. There's straight and gay dudes showering together in the military right now. If there was actually some terror about what happens when straight guys and gay guys shower together, we should not only be repealing DADT but making sexual orientation disclosure mandatory so we can separate these people. Because it's just like men showering with women and DADT knowingly allows this crime against nature to happen.
