And here I thought we were talking about reaganomics and the 80's.

We were talking about the effects of Reaganomics. Try and keep up.

Oh and as for the recession of the early 1990's remind me again who controlled congress?

So... wait. You're saying the economic success of the 1980's was due to Tip O'Neill?

Well, okay then! Smiley: thumbsup

You've already admitted that the economic successes of the 1980's were those of Tip O'Neill and so I'm happy. It's rare that I hear you praise a Democrat so glowingly but we both know who controlled Congress in the 1980's and so who deserves all the credit for the economy Smiley: smile

[quote]Millions of middle-class households already may be facing higher taxes in 2010 because Congress has failed to extend tax breaks that expired on January 1, most notably a "patch" that limited the impact of the alternative minimum tax. The AMT, initially designed to prevent the very rich from avoiding income taxes, was never indexed for inflation. Now the tax is affecting millions of middle-income households, but lawmakers have been reluctant to repeal it because it has become a key source of revenue.

Well, D'uh!

If you remove this 'key source of revenue', how an earth is Obama going to be able to find the US$160 billion he needs to continue bombing the Afghans and Pakistanis while occupying Iraq 'surround' Iran.

You can't have it all ways.

Bard,

It's real simple just google "US economic growth 80's". I'm sure even someone as limited as yourself can take it from there.

According to my Pubes to English dictionary, this roughly translates into:

"I have no evidence to back up my previous statement"

well, either that or:

"I like to shatter coke bottles with my sphincter"

which is it, varus?

Weren't you one of the ones that proclaimed Obama only intends to raise the taxes of the top 5%?

If Congress fails to (yet again) patch the AMT, it won't be because of Obama.

Fun fact: I just asked my son if the president was at fault if Congress didn't pass a law. He knew the answer. Varus is, literally, stupider than a fifth grader.

A February 1 Reuters article - subsequently withdrawn by the wire service -- claimed that the Obama administration's budget plan includes "backdoor tax increases that will result in a bigger tax bill for middle-class families," citing increases to marginal federal income tax rates that would go into effect if the Bush tax cuts were allowed to expire, and an increase in middle class families that would be subject to the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) without the renewal of a patch to limit its impact. In fact, Obama's 2011 budget calls for the Bush tax cuts to be extended for individuals making $200,000 or less and couples making $250,000 and for the AMT patch to be extended at its 2009 parameters through 2020.

Poor Varus. He tries so hard, too.
