Just want to get an idea for how all you crazy liberals felt about Obama's state of the union address.

Seems to me he made some pretty bold statements.

there be an R in pretty.

the list of tax incentives and cuts that he was proposing for small businesses was a long one. I think that is going to be an interesting development if anything comes of it.

Also, repealing don't ask don't tell: I hope this doesn't become a backburner issue like it always does

It's sad I made a b-line for this forum..

Undoubtedly, he has won back some of the people he lost with this speech. I'm looking forward to the promise of earmarks being publicized and.. a freeze on spending?! heh.

I was refering more to the use of the word "petty" which was either a typo for "pretty" or else doesn't seem to mean what you think it does.

I thought it was a good speech. I know the usual suspects will say it was one of the worst speeches ever. Whatevah.

I liked the part on energy policy; it was like whack-a-mole watching the two sides pop up and down as Obama described aspects of his vision. I was also happy to hear him talk about nuclear energy, a policy unpopular with much of the Left but which I personally support and which I was glad he talked about during the campaign.

The bit about him using an executive order to create what the GOP filibustered this afternoon was pretty awesome and ballsy.

Standard stuff in my eyes, for the most part. A few comments:

1. Health care reform pushes forward, despite the fact that it seems like neither political party particularly likes the bills currently under reconciliation. One suspects that Obama's promise to hear out GOP ideas for reform was just lip service, not that it's surprising.

2. The part that devolved into an extended round of "Remember how bad that Dubya guy was?" irritated me, especially when he followed it up by admonishing Congress for being in permanent campaign mode.

3. During the line where Obama opined on the recent Citizens United ruling, I swear that I saw Justice Kennedy mutter something rather profane to Justice Sotomayor.

4. Was Nancy Pelosi on ecstasy? She just sat there with that ****-eating smile on her face the entire night. Same with Biden, although he was probably just thinking about Transformers or something.

A three-year freeze on spending!*

*Except for defense, homeland security, Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security, which combine to make up about 70% of the federal budget.

I can see some of that. I think he had a valid point in that the issues he stepped into weren't going to be resolved in a year but I get where you're coming from.

Missed that. Although Kennedy and Sotomayor were on opposite sides of the ruling.

I want to go out with Biden some time and have steak dinners and bourbon.

He came to my work once. He was, by all accounts, good times. His teeth were also reported to be blinding.

I thought it was more of an open challenge to put up or shut up. He mentioned outright at one point that the right needs to be more proactive and less reactive.

I took it as Obama the Professor explaining how the deficit evolved to its present state, since he's only been in office one year and he keeps getting blamed for all of it. I thought it was great that he owned up to what his contribution was, and why he felt it was necessary and that he doesn't regret it.

I don't disagree that Obama had an uphill battle in front of him when he took office, and nobody should have expected him to "fix" the economy in a short 12 months. But at some point, he has to stop shifting blame and start fixing the problem. The "blame the last guy" strategy won't fly forever.

Despite what Carville is saying right now.

I don't need to list what made it awful. In fact, I didn't even see it! But Obama was talking, so it must have been one of the worst speeches ever. Haha! Try countering that one...
