Last year, I went to the Mentawais in Indonesia for a 2 week surf trip.

One that got away.
We were sitting in this bar the evening we got on the boat. 2 days after we left it got earthquaked.
Next years trip is already booked for June.

Gorgeous pictures, Paul! I'm so glad you got out before the earthquake hit. I remember a bunch of us worrying about you.
Ugh. Boats make me nauseous, and I'm not a beach person. I realize I'm in the minority here.
I have gotten sea sick on a glassy, serene lake.

You can see other vegetation on the edge of the photo. I'm assuming the island is fairly close to shore and not some dot of land in the midst of miles of endless oceans.

There are 11,000 islands in Indonesia, some ar large, like Java, and some are smaller than this one. We spent an hour or so playing football on one island about 100 metres in diameter with a lone 100 foot palm tree sticking up straight out the middle of it. It hust needed an old bearded guy in a loincloth sitting under it for completion.
