Stock letters to the editor are used by various organizations. Or one lone person is sending letters hither and yon and lying about their city of origin to help them get published in local papers.
What does this have to do directly with Obama or need "justifying"?
By itself, nothing. If it turns out it is some lone person doing this, then nothing. I would assume that the interest lies in the potential that this could be someone hired as some sort of viral PR agent, and if that's the case then it *is* kinda relevant. Posing as some local person in order to garner more of a home-town feel in editorial pages of papers would be a deceptive method to drive support for a party or politician.
Heck. Even if this person is working for some non-profit organization it's relevant as well. If for no other reason that to speak to the honesty of the person's statements and the organization. I'll certainly acknowledge that this could just be some lone person, but I also don't think we should just dismiss the possibility that it's something more organized.
