Crazy in Alabama. I loved the book, not only was the movie bad, but it screwed with my perspective of the story causing me to question my original opinion.
When I went to see Avatar one of the previews was for The Crazy Bones. I liked this book too. The preview looked good. It's directed by Peter Jackson. But I'm still skeptical.
On the other hand Princess Bride was WAY better as a movie and remains one of my favorites.

I can't think of one ruined off the top of my head, but I recently saw film version of The Road and I was so happy that it was true to the book.

This is probably the best example I can think of, where I was seriously pissed off after I saw it. I specifically remember a very angry livejournal entry.
A Prayer for Owen Meaney sucked alot more as Simon Birch.

My understanding is that the studio had the title rights to I, Robot for years and years and the Asimov estate was ready to pull them because the studio wasn't doing anything with them. So the studio took a Smith film already in production, shoehorned some novel elements into it and called it I, Robot rather than lose the rights.
Which doesn't excuse why I can't by the damn book without a movie poster style cover.

I was rather disappointed by the miniseries version of Richard Russo's Empire Falls. Ed Harris was all wrong as Miles Roby, and Helen Hunt's horribly forced New England accent still makes me want to gouge out my eardrums (after three years).
On the other hand, the movie version of Russo's Nobody's Fool is excellent. Much condensed from the book, it is wonderful in its own right.
Oh, and Stardust I think makes a much better movie. Though I saw the movie first which probably skewed my perception.

Actually, it shouldn't be amusing or interesting to anyone but the person doing it. If everyone else finds it amusing then it's just normal interaction, not trolling. You'd think you folks would have figured this out by now. You've got three of the biggest trolls on this site frequently posting in this forum, you should recognize it by now.

Star Wars was definitely a better book than movie. Or not... Ok. Actually, it was. Which is kinda odd really...
The Dune film was good in its own right (and quite quotable), but boy did it dork up the facts of the story. The miniseries(es) were great though!
Do I even need to mention Starship Troopers? Yikkes!
