I think commenting on a person's skin color and how they use the English language well is a little different than supporting Jim Crow laws and forced segregation.

But then again, I didn't think Trent Lott needed to lose his position over being nice to an old man, and neither should this Senator lose his position over this comment.

Typical politician - maybe. I might say, it's a typical man. But you know that would be just as stupid.

Anyways, what might or might not have been the reaction had someone else said it, whether it be a conservative or a hispanic or a woman or whatever, is silly conjecture.

You're not very bright.

"A light-skinned black man" with "no Negro dialect"? HOW DARE HE!

Also, who the **** uses the word "negro" anymore? I bet he still thinks gays are merely happy. Old codgers.

You know how I can tell this is butthurt political theater from the GOP?

Because if Reid actually did step down, his position as highest ranking member of the Senate would go to ****-mutha-fuckin'-liberal-from-Illinois-Durbin. And none of them actually want that.

But go ahead and cry "Hypocrites!" and stuff though if the sound 'n thunder makes you feel good. Smiley: smile

Typical Republican

Quote:
The National Iranian American Council is on high alert after a South Carolina Congressman announced this week that he will introduce legislation which would require the deportation of all Iranians living in America.

The Stop Terrorists Entry Program Act (STEP) was first introduced by Rep. J. Gresham Barrett (R-SC) in 2003 [PDF link]. The updated version, he explained in a media advisory, would bar citizens of Cuba, Iran, Sudan, Yemen and Syria from entry into the United States. It would further require citizens of those nations who are legally visiting or residing in the United States to be deported within 60 days.

And he's doing this as a response to an American who killed 12 other soldiers at Fort Hood, and a Nigerian who allegedly attempted to blow up an airplane on Christmas Day.

If the apparent problems with such a proposal are not not abundantly clear, the Iranian-American blog niacINsight puts it another way: "The American Army major and Nigerian alleged to have committed those attacks would not have been affected by the STEP Act."

"Twice in the past two months, radical Islamic terrorists have attacked our nation and the Administration has failed to adapt its national security and immigration policies to counter the renewed resolve of those who seek to harm our citizens," Barrett opined.

Wait, Cuban terrorists?

I don't think we've had any sort of issue with those since the '60s.

Not really, no. I'm not interested in trying to prove anything. The Democratic Party probably isn't too interested because the ones making the noise are GOP mouthpieces. GOP mouthpieces aren't really a prime Democratic voting bloc.

It's silly politics. The GOP will ***** because they know Reid won't go anywhere. Reid won't go anywhere because the Democrats know there's no value in it. The GOP doesn't actually want Reid to go anywhere because they'd be replacing a somewhat centrist Democrat with a rather liberal Democrat as Senate Majority Leader. It's all theater. Nice to see you so easily taken in, though.

Haha... off-topic, but this quote is from a Blagojevich interview with Esquire magazine. I haven't read the interview yet, just caught this snippet via another source:
Blagojevich wrote:
"It's such a cynical business, and most of the people in the business are full of shit and phonies, but I was real, man -- and am real. This guy, he was catapulted in on hope and change, what we hope the guy is. What the fuck? Everything he's saying's on the teleprompter. I'm blacker than Barack Obama. I shined shoes. I grew up in a five-room apartment. My father had a little laundromat in a black community not far from where we lived. I saw it all growing up.

Well. Let's be fair though. The Dems would be very very interested if the person who said those words was a Republican. I tend to agree that the "outrage" is really about overly political correct ideas. However, it's fair to say that there is hypocrisy in that the Dems will fall over themselves to attack someone who uses words which could be construed in a racial manner if that person is in the GOP, while not when they're a Dem.

And yeah. It's politics. But I think it's relevant to point out that those who push political correctness the most magically lose their interest when it's politically inconvenient for them...

I'm sure I don't care. The only time I ever said you should be banned, I pretty much did it as a joke to see if they would.

I don't know about that...Mel Brooks has gone downhill quite a bit since he can no longer make movies in which people are shouting "NIGGER!".
