drive in snow.

4 inches when there was supposed to be 0 inches of snow is a bit much I suppose, but honestly, 2 hours to travel 15 miles? Argh!!!!!!

lol This. Although if you cross the line into PA things get better but they don't plow the roads until after the snow stops. They also don't salt they use ash... very messy.

Also sounds like Georgia.

1 inch = Close the schools
2 inches = Close the businesses too
3 inches = Ask people not to drive
4 inches = Ask people not to walk, either
5 inches = We are so not prepared for this
6 inches+ = All the power lines go down because they're not graded for more than 3 inches of snow. So power is out, phones are out, cable is out, and people are trapped in their homes because most counties in GA only keep enough salt and grit on hand to salt down the roads 1 day a season.

Last year we got ******* SIX FEET OF SNOW IN ONE DAY WHAT THE HELL.

We usually get snow, but we are already half way through the plowing budget and aren't even out of December yet. Snow chains are illegal here as well, I need to get a second set of rims for the front of the car and get some snow tires put on, what I have now is worthless.

There was only an inch here, and yet it took me 2 and a half hours to make it 5 miles. Not that the road conditions were bad due to weather, but apparently around here, snow makes people stupid.

Here's a hint: when it's just a LITTLE bit slippery and braking isn't even remotely an issue, the best way to avoid getting stuck going up a very minor hill is to TAKE THE DAMN HILL FASTER THAN 5MPH!!!

Ok. I'm better now.

TABOR constraints usually means our lawmakers budget around 75% of what we should for snow removal so they can over budget elsewhere. March is our heaviest month for snowfall in Colorado (specifically the Denver Metro) and we're long out of money for removal by then.

If there's not at least six inches or more you don't even have slow down.

What the hell is this stupid BS about states outlawing chains? I can understand outlawing studded tires (more on the grounds that they're a waste of money when you try to drive on dry pavement at normal speeds than anything else), but outlawing chains is basically saying "you know, we'd rather you got into unavoidable car wrecks than not".

People in Maine can drive in snow. People from Massachusetts can't. That is why the two states eventually divided.

The thing is, with that much snow it's practically impossible to go fast enough to do anything stupid, or get in trouble...unless it slushed up then froze into grooves aiming off the road.

Unless you count getting stuck in the middle of no where as "get in trouble". The problem with that much snow isn't spinning out of control and flying off the road, it's just not being able to move forward at all.

We got snow in Texas, but it didn't stick. Still people decided to start drooling while driving.

Seriously, when the snow started to fall, the car in front of me SLAMMED on their brakes. Not slow down, stopped. Several people pulled over onto the shoulder and turned on their hazards. Maybe they were scared to drive, maybe they were coloring with crayons... idk. Either way I got home 2 hours late.

I got a set of snow tires last year, and just paid 20 euros to have them put on my normal rims. I'll drive those till march/april, and then pay 20 euros again to have my normals put on.
Some european countries require you to have snow tires during winter, so they'll be handy for my february skiing trip anyway.

Ahaha! Good old PretendDOT. You're from PA? Remember the Valentine's Day 2007 Snow Massacre? I think it was 2007.

Anyway, PennDOT took a ********* of complaints, both from citizens AND federal agencies.

I think it's that white stuff that's up in the mountains that you can go ski on if you want, then come back home for some surfing later. At least that's my understanding. Apparently, in some parts of the country, they haven't properly trained their snow to stay in its own spot so it can be enjoyed only when wanted or something...

I've no idea but Illinois doesn't allow them either. In our case, we're stuck with the problem that you can apparently make asphalt that does well in the cold or asphalt that does well in the heat but not asphalt that does both. So when you have temperature extremes from -15ºF to 105ºF, you just wind up with asphalt in a constant state of disrepair. At least that's how I heard some IDOT guy explain it.

Point being, maybe they figure chains are just going to make the problem worse. Or maybe I'm giving them too much credit.

8 parking spaces hold a max of 5 cars when there is snow on the ground, then additional parking must be used.

I haven't yet encountered a parking lot where this number was exceeded this winter.
