well, more like he came out of the red-closet.

Griffith is switching from Dem to Republican

I think it's a little bogus to switch your party alignment to be more in accordance with your beliefs after you are elected. He should have at least waited until he was up for re-election.

Eh, I disagree with that, too.

These people were elected on a given platform, supposedly because that platform represents what their voters want. To throw that platform away halfway through a term is basically deserting the people you're supposed to be working for.

then again, that's a very ignorant, optimistic view of things.

He didn't really "throw it away", he just saw that he probably was going to lose to a democratic opponent, so he changed parties to stay elected. More or less, just moved over to the majority platform that happened to disagree with his own, so he could maintain his "I want to keep being a senator" principles.
