No more so than when Social Security was first implemented. Or the interstate highway system. Or, you know, public education.

The public education system that fails to teach the spelling of benefits and immediately.

:(
The same one that fails to teach basic life skills like using the spell check provided by the forum you moderate.

They didn't have one.

At least they tried for the economic recovery, which was also elegant in its simplicity.

The pubbies rolled the dice that by defeating this bill, they were defeating Obama.

They lost.

The reactions to that loss contained within this thread is only the /butthurt they feel over it. It will continue until the next congressional election where I predict any and all pubbies to proclaim "This is a defeat for Obama!"

Which they will proclaim once again in 2012, when they pick up some more seats, but Obama beats Romney-Palin in a landslide.

God, I hope Romney has enough sense to do one of the following:

1) Tell the RNC "hell no I'm not having that crazy woman as my VP" or
2) Tell the RNC "you want her as VP, I'm going independent".

In either case I'd vote for him. To be honest, I was kind of pissed that it wasn't McCain-Romney in '08.

I was hoping for Rudy Guiliani, if only because I thought it'd be awesome to have an Italian from Brooklyn running the war.

Cross Rudy Giuliani with "Joe the Plumber" and the war would have been about finding the lost princess in random castles over there.

One Mario joke is about two too many for this thread, I think.

He's not conservative enough for the Tea Party crowd. I foresee Romney being the GOP front runner on the economy alone. Hell, him & Beck are even both Mormons, so he's got that crowd too.

Make no mistake, however, that the GOP primary is going to be every bit as tough, & perhaps even nastier, than when Obama & Hillary went at it. I bet a lot of the Palin sore losers even threaten not to vote at all if she doesn't get the nod!

She's gotta be at least the VP though, her massive ego won't allow otherwise.

Unless she takes over for Oprah, that might be enough for the beast.

No doubt, once the GOP has the seats on Congress once more, they'll reverse this entire bill with the full support of the American people.

Look forward to the day!

It sure beats the Democrats plan of

1. Get sick and die quickly

Who says the Democrats couldn't simplify the process?
Pretty sure the bill is over 2000 pages.

First thing I saw glancing at this page was:

Quote:
The American people have spoken. They oppose government-run health care.
Which is always an interesting statement to make, because the American people support a public option, but they do in far fewer numbers when they find out that the government would be running the public option. For what it's worth, the doctors favor a public option as well.

Oh, Republican misinformation machine.

A great shame, indeed. The freedom to be denied health care is one of the founding tenants of this country.

What did they offer? Can you provide a link to exactly what the GOP was offered?

That was easy

Again, the ironic thing is that the GOP could have taken that bill and said "We'll support this... if it has a tort reform component" and the Democrats would have fallen all over themselves to put that into the bill and be able to say "Yay! Bipartisanship!"

Instead, the GOP put all of its chips on obstructionism and lost any chance to have those things included. And got nothing for it.

Hey, my mistake! The Baucus bill actually did address tort reform and the GOP still rejected it.
Quote:
Medical malpractice: The legislation says Congress should consider creating state demonstration programs to evaluate alternatives to the current litigation system. Republicans had called for the creation of special malpractice courts and limits on damage awards.

There ya go. Obstructionism: Job One!
