A study released Thursday ranked Tennessee as the fourth-happiest state in America based on the answers of Tennesseans and what researchers called objective measures of good living.

Tennessee is home to country music, sour mash whiskey and Tennessee football. Is it any surprise it's among the happiest states in the nation?

The Centers for Disease Control polled more than 1.3 million people across the country, and only three states — Louisiana, Hawaii and Florida — ranked higher in happiness than the Volunteer State.

And Fl and Louisiana suck the big one. So basically besides Hawaiians TNeans are the happiest people in the Union.

LMAO!

Congestion is one measure, as is the amount of sunshine, temp and house prices.

So populated states are out because too many people cause congestion and presumably frustration. Northern states are out because the short cold days make them depressing, wealthy states are out because houses invariably cost more.....

Lol.

Sounds like TN needs a good Varus awareness day.

For those of you wondering, because Varus of course cited an entertainment site and not the actual research, the study was conducted by Andrew J. Oswald and Stephen Wu and published in Science, a peer reviewed and respected journal.

I'm not happy today. They won't let me go home, even though there's no one here and no one will be here since the golf course is closed due to flooding. /sigh

I brought a book this time.

It's funny because I ran an ordinal regression with the data from that list and the data from here and the relationship was negative, with a coefficient of -.25 and a p value of .067.

The bottom on that page kinda negates all the happy vibes, though.

# Tennessee is worst in nation in funding anti-smoking programs for kids
# TN moves out of bottom 5 most unhealthy states to No. 44
# Tennesseans let cancer kill them
# Tennessee is 46th in caring for kids
# Tennessee 4th fattest in nation

I find those rankings odd, as Florida is filled with old people, who are miserable, and immigrants, who while happy would probably not answer surveys.

Hawaii I totally get, though. After all, the president was born there!

You can't reject the null hypothesis at those levels, are you a madman?

And thus, that I take exception; proves the rule.

Yeah I was real rigorous, I didn't even adjust the values upward after deleting the entry for D.C.

Of course they're happy. TN is a big ole welfare state living off the work of the actual working states. If I could coast off everyone else's work, I'd be happier too!

I'm talking about how my tax dollars are being soaked up supporting your slack-*** state. If the people in TN learned how to work harder instead of being sponges sucking off real working Americans like myself, maybe TN wouldn't be a federal welfare state.

Generally, for every $1 in federal taxes Tennessee pays, it receives back $1.27 from the federal government. (At least from 1980-2005.)

Tennesseeans are only happy because of their relative low standards for things like, say, civilization and intelligence. And teeth.

No wonder you're so miserable, Nadenu.
