Reading this made me proud to be a Republican.

Quote:
GOP Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma had sought approval to require that any amendment considered by the Senate must be offered 72 hours in advance and with a full cost report.

When he was rebuffed by Democratic Sen. Max Baucus of Montana, Coburn invoked his right to require that an amendment by another lawmaker be read aloud.

Good for Tom.

This event, as reported by you, sounds positive to me too. I like politicians to be absolutely clear what they are voting on. Same for the press and the public.

They won't be. Or rather, if they wanted to be, they'd read the text of it. Do you think they're actually going to sit in rapt silence for 700+ pages?

It's a stalling tactic, which is fine. They can all spend some long nights and weekends on it. Something is going to pass and this is a last ditch effort to try and stop it.

Which is funny, because I can remember several times you've claimed to dislike both parties in the past and said the Republicans are as bad as Democrats because they can't get shit done.

Funny my understanding of economics says that healthy poor people who can choose childlessness when contraception stuffs up are much better contributers to prosperous capitalism than unhealthy poor people who have kids when they aren't set up for them.

And that a working, healthy strata of poorer people who get to choose when they have kids will more than pay for universal healthcare with the extra income and taxes they pay from actually being able to work.

Ari, Ari, Ari. Don't you understand anything?

Varrus's capitalism isn't about poor people. Poor people don't have any money, and they don't own any companies. Capitalism is only about the private business owner making fistfulls over fistfulls of cash, and keeping it. Poor people simply don't enter into it.

I'm pro-capitalism. It just turns out most of the time the GOP falls into that category. This health bill has the potential to send the US into another depression. That is bad for business I don't care what political affiliation you support. And generally speaking when congress is getting nothing done i'm happiest.

Oh and I'm anti-abortion.

So... you're not a Republican?

Because obviously all wealthy individuals are like scrooge mcduck and simply throw all their millions in a big empty indoor swimming pool.

Because creating a society where people are personally responsible for their actions is such a bad thing.

Here's a hint sweetheart the more money I make the more people I can hire with which to make more money so I can spend the 10's of thousands on things like new boats, houses, new whatever.

Yes, we know, you're all for exploiting people for a quick profit and then telling them how to live their lives.

I'm all for personal responsibility, Varrus. I've never said I'm not. However, there is a social responsibility, too. Even in Capitalism.

Social responsibility should include cutting off harmful leeches to society.

By denying them any rights to liberty?

It certainly doesn't stem from any sense of fiscal responsibility, because sterilization costs $1500-$5000, and you're going to have to include the many lawsuits from failed reversals. Also, doctors aren't going to go along with it, since they rarely will consent to giving the surgery to women without a certain amount of kids and who are under a certain age (often at their personal discretion).

I guess varus will have to take away the liberties of doctors and force them to perform this onerous procedure to enact his plan :( Why do you hate freedom?

I know this may also sound revolutionary but I don't think anyone who's on welfare should be allowed to vote either.

Stopping at voting? I never knew you were so liberal Varus. These people don't even have the right to exist. They chosen not to have jobs, they aren't going to change their minds. All they do is leech; so we might as well get rid of them. I think it should be legal to kill people on welfare. If we turn it into a sport we might even be able to force those leeches into creating some benefit for society.
Ugly wrote:

Close, but still not close enough. Anyone not willing to slay the leeches of society is at best a CINO and at worst a liberal.
